I just finished the first season of True Blood, via the magic of Netflix.
Some thoughts :

[li]Man, I fuckin’ hate the South.[/li][li]I like the specific take on Vampires presented.[/li][li]Love that intro sequence.[/li][li]Jason is the dumbest character on television.[/li][li]Lafayette kicks ass - I think he’s the smartest person on the show. And the least annoying.[/li][li]I want to beat Tara to death with a tire iron. The most annoying character on the show. Except when her Mom left her in jail, then I hated her Mom more for a while.[/li][li]Poor Eddie.[/li][/ul]
You don’t like Tara? That’s the only person on the show besides Lafayette that I don’t want to set on fire, all the time. I’ve only seen the first season, though.
They *all *were kind of whiny and annoying and basically it is too big a soap opera for me. I ended up watching all but the last few of the first season.
The 2nd season is a lot better, although it kind of veers off on a tangent at the end. And when they introduce the King of Mississippi, it gets very interesting. I started out not liking this show all that much, but it really grew on me.
Watched seasons 1&2. Definitely on board with the Tara hate. Liked the Eric character at first when he was more enigmatic and scary but the more backstory and screen time he got the less I liked him. Although… When he says goodbye to his maker…damn…that was sad!
Can’t remember her name but I liked the teenaged girl vampire and the way you feel so sorry for her when she’s about to be vamped but once she’s turned she’s totally into all the killing and blood drinking.
The shows not what I’d call great television but it’s a lot of fun.
Welcome! One of us! Perhaps like me, you’ll find yourself sitting there thinking, “I can NOT believe I am watching this stupid, stupid show. It is a cavalcade of stupid.” Yet if someone suggested turning the station, you would threaten their miserable life if they tried it! My favorite things about TB are the hilarious bits mixed in there - there you are gaping in awe at all the blood n’ violence, and all of a sudden you’re laughing your ass off. Your ASS off.
Tara’s capacity to get pissed off at people for literally nothing exceeds that of any person I’ve ever encountered.
Most of the characters are okay - Sam needs a backbone, when it comes to Sookie; Bill has an interesting backstory for a vampire and his struggles with his vampiric obligations are, at least, entertaining.
Sookie’s kinda dumb too. What really struck me was when Bill had been taken off to the Vampire tribunal and she was whining about how if he really wanted to be with her, he’d be there with her. “I know my lover has a court date, but if he really liked me, he’d blow it off.” What kind of self-absorbed moron thinks that way?
:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:
Goes to show you…different strokes for different folks. Cuz I think that might be the most perfectly brilliant opening sequence of any TV show ever. I never fast forward through it, because it puts me exactly where it should mentally… in the swamps of Louisiana, surrounded by crazy magic and crazy people. LOVE it to death.
I don’t know if it’s bad acting so much as unappealing acting. She’s just an unappealing person, unappealing voice, mannerisms - ugh. She’s as convincing in her acting as anyone on the show, which I grant isn’t saying much.
I hate all the HBO intros. They all seem to be made by the same team and share the same annoying aesthetic and totally nonsensical connection to the actually show. I fast forward through them all. The standouts are the awful Boardwalk Empire, Rome and True Blood intros. I’m actually good with the Entourage intro since it makes sense with the show and I find the Hung intro overlong but it too at least fits in a bit and features the main character.
The Sookie kind. Really I do like the show quite a bit but Sookie must be the victim of a lot of southern in-breeding. That girl is a sharp as the pointed end of a bowling ball.
