I happened to hear a bit of Gardel’s music on NPR one morning, and I enjoyed it. Despite having been composed more than 70 years ago, it sounded fresh and modern. My wife (who is Brazilian) told me that Gardel’s music is still popular with amny young people in Brazil.
Gardel died in a plane crash in 1938-so why is he still so popular? Was he something special?
As an Argentine, I imagine he would be well known in his home country-but why in Brazil?
