Laugh at my horrible art web site

Back here, community members were kind enough to not laugh too hard at my feeble attempts at art, even when invited to do so.

Since then, I’ve got my crap hung up in a gallery and put together a crappy website hopefully befitting their general crappiness. And added a bunch more. (And found a couple of suckers that laid out hard cash money for them, haha.)

So, appreciate feed back on this disaster. Be brutal. Trust me, you won’t offend. Thank you.

Believe it or not, Bill H., I liked most of what I saw. InterStellar, from gallery 2, is the one I’d hang on one of my walls. I like the composition and the colours would go with the furnishings in one of the rooms in my house.

Well it’s not the most enthuisastic pitch I’ve ever heard, and I hope it’s not how you push your software, but I kinda like it.

You really are quite modest about your work.

Another believe it or not coming up…

Believe it or not, Bill, three days after I saw your gallery from the older thread, I downloaded PSP to see if I could match the effects that you use in your pictures (I hope you don’t mind, though). Basically, you motivated me to start creating my own picture collection again (after about three years of not being bothered).

Blocks, Hatch, Neurons and Intersection are the new ones that I particularly enjoy, and I’m glad you found some buyers (or “suckers” ;)) for your pictures.

Thanks, Necromancer; kind words. I appreciate that. What did you think of the web site? Any uglinesses beyond the quality of the art?

Nice site, Bill.
I like that it is clean and simple - not overdone.
I HATE it when I try to check out a site, and it takes forever for things to load, wacky fonts are used against wierd-colored backgrounds, etc.
Glad you chose a different bio than - say - your OP above.
Also neat to see you are finding a venue for your interest.
Looks like you have chosen some better names than when you previously posted. The only real clinker (in my mind) remains “Purple Flowers.”

As far as the art is concerned, not really my cup of tea. It certainly doesn’t offend me, but neither does it engage me. What size, format do you show them in? I’m sure they look different hung than on screen.

They look to me as tho they could be illustrations for some futuristic, sci-fi, fiction/magazine. Or hung in series in a public space, like an office or restaurant, where they were not really meant to be studied. Kind of a pleasant background.

Maybe on a larger poster-sized scale, say to add a lot of instant color for a dorm room. I’ve certainly seen folks hang a lot worse.

Something about them reminds me of years gone by in a friend’s basement with a black light…

On a second viewing, my thoughts are down the lines of Dinsdale. Have you given any thought to different avenues to show off your work?

For instance, when I first looked at that site I immediately thought, ‘Hey, some of these would make some good desktop backgrounds.’ And not in a negative kinda way, mind you.

Check out ThemeXP (One of the more popular art sites for background art, styles, etc) and maybe think of throwing one or two on that site.

You’d definetely get a good read on what people think of them, not so much in the, ‘Hey I like it, but it could use more…’, but more a gauge of how many people like it enough to download.

I dunno, maybe it’s an option that doesn’t appeal to you at all, but thought I’d mention it all the same.

I like the site. Simple, clean, and to the point. The back ground is something that just about anything will look good against, and is a change of pace from the sterotypical white. In addition, the font/layout doesn’t take away from the artwork, rather, allows it to be the focus while providing a suitable backdrop. I particularly like the layout of the opening page. Nice work.

Looks good! Clean, simple, all the links work :D.

Hope you do well.

CnoteChris, thanks for the kind words. Yeah, I definetely sell myself on the computer side much better. At least there I have good experience and stuff to be proud of. On the art side, I just enjoy doing it, and don’t really have much in the way of respect for them.

green_bladder, I’d love to see some of yours if you can post it. Also, I’m happy to share how I did various things if you’re interested. (At least as best as I can remember; some of them I just fiddled until I liked it and really don’t recall).

Thanks for the postive vibes on Blocks, Hatch, Neurons and Intersection.

Thanks, Dinsdale. On a technical note, this was the first site I’ve done with PHP and MySQL (though I’ve used MySQL for non-web stuff before). Kindof fun. The bio sounds a little silly to me, as there’s no real content (won the prestigous X award or has been displayed at Y, or has sold over Z copies). Just fluffy words. But fluffy words are all I have at this point, so fluffy it is.

Thanks for noticing the name improvements. I’ll re-think Purple Flowers as well.

For displaying, some in this exhibit are relatively small, 6x8, and some are 16x20. I haven’t made a really big one, but I suspect this sort of art (vivid colors, interesting textures, no real subject) are best bigger.

Thanks again for the kind words.

Bill, I enjoyed looking at your art web site. Great job.

Love,
Mom

P.S. Please use nicer words other than “horrible” to describe your art. And sit up straight, dear. Are you eating all your vegetables?

CnoteChris, thanks. Honestly, I haven’t really thought about screen savers. I’ll look into it. I suspect there’s not much money in that though; I amost wonder if it’s better to just give free copies away as backdrops or something. I’ll check out ThemeXP.

Thanks, Orange Skinner. Appreciate the kind words. I was trying to think of a way that the whole thing could be like the opening page, but couldn’t really make it happen.

Mr. Blue Sky, you’re very kind; thanks.

The website has some good stuff on it, but I hate the name.

Quoke sounds like a disease. “I’m sorry Mr. Jones, you have quoke of the scrotum, buy a casket.”

You crack me up, LookitMe. Actually you’ve seen the site prior to my mom; such is the respect I have for you. Thanks for the kind words. And I’ll work on the vegetables.

Thanks for the compliment on the art, corndog man. The name Quoke is just the shortest pronouncable .com I could find, and I didn’t find it terribly distasteful, in fact a bit quirky, which I liked. Didn’t really feel like branding my own name as that’s not my style. But if enough folks find it distasteful, we’ll move on to another name.

heehee

hehawhee.

::cough:: snicker Ha! Haahaa!

BWAHHHAHHAHHHAHHHA

Ahem.
I kinda like them. I think you need a gallery called “Corners”, though.

I was expecting something actually bad, those are purty!

I think you really know your effects.
