Laura

What or who came to mind when you read this title?

How do you rate this piece of music and does it make you think of anyone in particular? David Raksin Plays the theme from “Laura”

Do you have a particular favorite version of the song?

I like ‘Laura’ jazz piano

As for people I’ve known, there was a girl in grammar school I always think of.

  1. My wife,

and

  1. The movie that inspired her name.

The name does make me think of the Gene Tierney movie, but except for it also evoking the film I don’t have any particular opinion or feelings for the song.

Laura Palmer form Twin Peaks. That’s what immediately came to mind.

It makes me think of Twin Peaks. Laura Palmer was the main victim whose case was being investigated, in the show, and there were many cases of people (and birds) repeating her name over and over, so it tends to stick.

Exactly. When I see or hear that name, I hear that bird (a mynah?) in the conference room saying it.

The movie. BTW, IIRC Twin Peaks named the character Laura Palmer after the Laura in the movie.

I think of the film. And immediately my favorite version of the song pops into my head: Nat King Cole singing “Laura”

Ingalls Wilder.

Laura Calder.

I thought of the song. My favourite version is Spike Jones.

The movie, first, which we just rewatched for the first time in about 20 years. And my daughter, second, whose name was inspired by the movie - we were watching it, and my wife said “I like the name Laura!” and I said “hey, me too!” and so it stuck.

Righteous!

Laura is the face in the misty light
Footsteps that you hear down the hall

I have Sinatra’s version on my MP3 player.

Secord

One of Johnny Mercer’s most evocative lyrics, IMHO.

Gene Tierney. Lord, she was beautiful.

Well, it was my mother’s favorite movie, but I’ve never seen it. It’s also the name of the woman I’m dating.

I figured someone would post that before I could.

“Tell Laura I Love Her.”

I thought of the movie first as well; probably because TCM showed it this weekend and I watched part of it again. Really stylish film – and Gene Tierney was just gorgeous. Even though I’ve seen the movie a couple of times, I had to laugh at myself a little when

Laura showed up not dead – and I was happy to see her alive.
