The goat’s only for first timers - we break them in easy. For experienced dopers who change their name, we bring out … the llama!
Eidolon is also a genus of bat (of family Pteropodidae). With the magic of my Pun and Reaching-For-It-Joke Wand, I now proclaim you the Babe Ruth of Greek Ghosts.
Skip, that was worse than the closing of AFG’s thread. Much, much worse.
Any relation to the Flying Spagetti Monster?
Oh, man. Have I been mispronouncing this name in my head, too?
I always thought LaurAnge was a clever play on words - ie: the real name was Laura, and maybe she had bright, coppery red hair, and to be clever, she added a little twist and now her name sounds like l’orange… french for the orange.
Was I way off?
wanders off, thinking about diving with tubas
Hah, only a little off - my real name is Lauren, and ‘Ange’ is french for ‘angel’ (I went by Ange and Angélique a lot also in my early internet days).
It was only pointed out to me after a few years on the SDMB that it sounded like “l’orange”, as in duck à.
I changed mine because I was bored. Now I wish I hadn’t. But I didn’t mention the change in my sig (until now), because it seemed kind of redundant. If anyone missed out on the thread I started about the name change, chances are, they weren’t interested.
My brain can’t pronounce eidolon for some reason; it always makes it “eee oh DA laaan”.
So I’ma stick with calling you LaurAnge
Feel free, Rasa. It’s not like I’m gonna stop responding at this point
I don’t get it.
(overly subtle pun, perhaps)
You don’t get the new name, you mean? Or you don’t get one of the comments in this thread?
Yes, your name made me hungry for duck, always. But damn! I’d thought you died! Don’t do that.
Me too, I thought something awful had happened to you.
As I hate names I have know way of knowing how to pronounce, help a girl out and give me a hint would ya?
Otherwise I am delighted to discover you are just fine and still with us.
Anybody whose handle makes me think of Edgar Allan Poe (and also gets me to reach for the dictionary) is cool by me.
I’d like to pirate this thread to announce my name change as well!
I’m now “Happy Lendervedder,” or just “Happy” for short.
Carry on,
Happy, formerly stv
I don’t understand your new name. It sounds all greek to me.
(still an overly subtle pun, but at least I’m laughing)
