LaurAnge is no more

As much as I always hated those people who have been around forever and, out of nowhere, change their usernames, I have become one.

For the past long while, LaurAnge struck me as the kind of name a 13-year old girl who thought the word ‘angel’ was cool would have picked. Which really oughtn’t come as a surprise to me, as that’s who I was when I picked it. Ten years later, it had lost its appeal.

So here is my brand-spanking-new username, which I like much better, although I’m certain it will take a while for everyone (me included) to get used to.

Please explain the meaning of your new user name. Do we bring out the goat for rechristenings, or is that just new members?

Nah, I think I’ve been on the wrong side of the goat too many times for it to hold much meaning any more

There’s a variant of the Helen of Troy myth which is told in Euripides’ play the Helen (most prominently, although we have fragments from other people like Stesichorus) which says that it wasn’t Helen who ran off to Troy with Paris, it was a eidolon (which translates in English to phantom/ghost/image). One of my favourite papers in my BA was on the Helen myth and particularly about this aspect of it.

I can go on and on about this topic, but I’ll spare you guys

Yes, I’m trying to get used to my new name too. Cheers!

Each of you could put your old names in your sig for a while, perhaps.

Fish, the only thing that annoys me more than people who change their names are those people who don’t put it in their sig! It’s the first thing I did once the name-change went through.

Hey, cool, fellow obscure Greek-mythology reference username! snogs

We’d better watch the snogging - it’s usually said that I was made to spite you. Although if you’re willing to forgive, so am I!

Howdy (again) from the former rmariamp. Dull as dishwater, that one was.

I like the new name. A suitably ancient Greek one for such a Hellenistic loving doper.

Ahhh, I can forgive anything after a few hundred centuries–especially someone as beautiful as yourself

(But try not to launch a thousand ships this time around, k?)

Thanks. This one actually has something to do with my interests than a random string of syllables stuck together!

Although I have to say I’ve always been a bit jealous that you picked ‘Cunctator’ first. It’s the perfect blend of ancient history and student life

I like it Laur. Seems scholarly.

It’s a pretty cool name, though you are sure to have a few folks imagining the Von Trapps singing about the Eidolon on the mountainside.

Although I have an exciting new username, I still have the same brain with the speed of molasses. Which leads me to say: huh?

Seems like a perfectly reasonable thing to do, IMO.

Joking about Eidelweiss, the flower which is sung about in The Sound of Music.

Perhaps your next incarnation could be as Cunctatrix.

What was your old name?

Signed, the former Green Bean

I don’t know. I think if your name doesn’t sound like a fruit, then what kind of a name is it!?
