Well the law disagrees, thankfully.
I’m going by what the cops said, but I can’t say I’m surprised we’re already hearing the 'lying whore" chorus.
Really, where have you heard that?
From you, for one. You just called her a “call girl,” and said she was was trying to decieve poor, innocent LT by putting on make-up.
The cops flat out said he sexually assaulted her.
No it doesn’t. The law does not say it’s ok to commit rape if a pimp is involved.
So you don’t care what the law says, and you don’t care what he was charged with. You just want to push your own personal agenda. You’ve made your point loud and clear.
I said no such thing, what makes you think someone who is being forced to fuck someone for money can’t be forced to make themselves look presentable? The cops charged him with statutory rape and soliciting a prostitute, forcibly raping an underage girl is absent from that list. You simply lack the ability to look at things objectively.
The cops said he raped her. The cops don’t charge, the prosecutor does. People are undercharged at the outset all the time. It’s normal. The charges could change.
The police themselves said this pimp brought this girl to LT’s hotel against her will, that he ordered her to have sex with LT. She refused. The pimp pinched her in the face, then LT “sexually assaulted” her (their words) and gave her 300 dollars.
There’s no innocent explanation for LT here, and I always liked the guy, even with all his trevails before this.
I understand what you’re saying, and if they meant “sexually assaulted” in the “assault” sense then I’m totally on board with your disgust.
However, even if she was a lolita temptress who actively seduced him, wouldn’t the police still frame that as him sexually assaulting her by virtue of her being legally unable to consent?
And no, prosecutors don’t usually lowball the charges and then raise them to more severe charges at a later date. Once the charges are filed, those are the charges.
People get black eyes from stuff other than being beaten into being a hooker. She could have been in a bar fight the night before, or been roughed up by her last john.
LT calls someone for a hooker, this is the girl they bring. It doesn’t make him Man of the Year, but I can’t say that he should have known she was unwilling without knowing more facts.
And that’s not true at all. If the cops file charges and the prosecutors determine that they have probable cause to file a more serious charge based on the facts, they frequently do file those charges. Often they’ll use the potential of filing more serious charges as a bargaining chip to get the defendant to plea to the originally filed charge.
To provide an example, I’ve seen it happen a few times where a kid was charged with assault and theft out of the same incident. Any prosecutor would take one look at that and refile it as a robbery, so I will always advise my clients at preliminary hearing that the best thing they can do is go in and plead guilty to those two misdemeanors immediately, to bar the prosecutor from filing the more serious charges. I love it when the judge hears the facts and the first thing they say after accepting the plea is “You are lucky you have a good lawyer who knows that you could have been charged with robbery out of this.”
He called WHO for a hooker? This wasn’t some phonebook escort service. This was plainly underground stuff, and the girl showed up with a black eye (it’s not cear whether LT saw the pimp hit her. According the the police report, the pimp hit her after they were at the hotel and she refused his order to service LT, but I don’t think it’s clear what LT himself actually witnessed).
In any case, LT knew he was using a street pimp, not an escort service, and when a street pimp brings him an unhappy teenaged girl with a black eye, I don’t think it’s hard to put two and two together.
Thanks much for the correction. I think I was confused about double jeopardy or something.
And how many false claims of rape are there? Anyone else remember the Duke case?
Presumption of innocence applies, peeps.
We are not the govenment. There is nothing wrong with us ignoring the presumption of innocence any more than there is anything wrong with this board ignoring the idea of free speech.
I’ll remember that if I’m picked to be on the jury, which I won’t be. However it is becoming clear that the police don’t think Taylor knew she was underage. That ESPN story also suggests Taylor already admitted to paying for sex, although his lawyer denies it later on in the story. I think that’s a quote from yesterday.
According to Marley’s link:
The talking heads on cnn claim these street girls have multiple clients each night. If they are going to make an example of LT, then what about the hundred or so guys who unwittingly used her services too? Are they going to track down each and every john? She’s been a working girl since early March.
LT was stupid to not check id. As someone posted earlier LT has a long history of using escorts. The group COYOTE has worked since the 1970’s for Decriminalization of prostitution. A regulated industry could screen out the underage girls, addicts, and other victims. The women who choose the profession deserve the same insurance benefits, medical checkups, and protections of any other worker.
Right now, I think the pimp deserves the harshest penalties. He’s the sicko piece of crap making a living picking up underage runaways. Using drugs and violence to force the girls to work.
For me, the big question is what LT knew. Did he know what kind of scumbag the pimp was? Did he suspect that the girl had been beaten? I’m not an expert, but common sense tells me that pimps know how to inflict pain without leaving marks. They can’t send a girl out with black eyes and broken teeth. LT may not have known she was forced.
I really hope this is an misunderstanding. That LT really expected a 19 year old. If he was trolling for underage girls then, he deserves prison.
Very few.
I wish they would track them all down, and she’s not a “working girl,” and she doesn’t have “clients.” She’s a rape victim and she has rapists. I think it’s despicable that prostitution laws criminalize victimhood and neglect enforcement against exploiters and rapists. Every one of those Johns should be hunted down and castrated.
It’s irrelevant what LT knew, by the way. Feigning ignorance of age is no excuse. Plus he knew she’d been beaten.
