LCD (?) Display Dying a Slow Death

A couple of years ago, I purchased a phone that features a small screen just above the push-buttons. I believe it’s a LCD display. It feeds me Caller ID info and tells me when I have a voicemail (I have a message center), the latter of which is pretty cool. (Otherwise I have to constantly pick up and hear of a special tone that signals a message.)

Lately, however, the display’s dying. First it started with a bar or 2 missing so that maybe the “H” would look like “h”. This makes reading numbers especially difficult. Over weeks, however, the display’s deteriorated to the point where I can’t decipher the numbers anymore and the letters look like Middle-earth Dwarf.

Is there anyway I can fix this (what kind of store would fix this sort of thing) or should I just hook up a separate Caller ID box and keep checking for that special dial tone? Warranty’s expired by now.

Having morked in the retail electronics field, I can tell you it’s not worth fixing, unless it was a particularly expensive phone. If it’s not under warranty, it’s time to replace it, or use an external caller ID display. If you feel the phone’s cost may justify a repair, expect to pay around $30-$40.

Morked? :smack:

Nanu-nanu.

sigh The phone cost about $30, so I guess it’s the hook-up method for me. Of course, occasionally, it’s fun to play “Who’s Calling Me Now?”

Thanks for the info, Mor**Q.E.D. **
