le le op pe pu zz (people puzzle)

Since Biotop dedicated his latest puzzle to me I felt it was only proper to return the favour and do a puzzle featuring some split up alphabetised pairs of letters things.

I have taken the names of 18 famous people, arranged them into pairs split up their names into pairs of letters and then put these letters into alphabetical order. The pairs are not random either, there is a connection between each pair of names. A broader connection ties ALL of the names together. You have to solve the anagrams & then work out the 1 word answer. For example:
AL AN CO DY EX FE LE ON RG US

Is an anagram of Andy Cole - Alex Ferguson. The connection between these two people is that Andy Cole plays football for Manchester United, a team which is managed by Alex Ferguson. This is not to say that the following anagrams are all sports related, although they might be.

I hope my instructions are clear, the rest you’ll have to work out for yourself.

  1. AG AL AT BE CH EY FI HA IE NN RI RT ST - (1)

  2. AD AH AL BR CH KP NI PI TT UC UK - (8)

  3. AM CD EL GE L LC MA MM OL ON OW SS TH UR YB - (3)

  4. AS DI EF HA IS JO OM OS R RR TE TH - (10)

  5. AG CO E EC EY JO LA LL NE NI ON SC - (6)

  6. BB EP GT HE IM IN IN NK RO ST - (18)

  7. EA HA IA IB KE LG LL ME MS N RE SO SP WI (4)

  8. CH CK ES EY JA KE N NI NK OL SO - (21)

  9. AL AR CH ET GW HP IC KE LE NS OW SD TR YN - (7)
P.S. Note: Whilst all oft hese people are, to an extent, famous not all of them are household names and a couple are only a very little bit famous. Everyone else is reasonably noteworthy, however.

P.P.S. There are, in several of the anagrams, letters which stand alone, not part of any pair. This is just a result of many of the names not having an even number of letters. Stand alone letters have no more significance than a normal pair.

P.P.P.S - There may be a couple of typo’s in the anagrams. I’ve tried my best to makeit perfect but it’s pretty late here & I’m tired so be on the watch for them.

I worked on this for maybe an hour last night, and since there are no additional hints this morning (Pacific Time), I’ll just tell you how far I got.

I have two names and a link for numbers 1, 4, 7, and 9. I have two names and no link for number 8. I have one name and a mess of leftover letters for numbers 2 and 6. I can’t figure out what to do with the numbers given at the end of each clue. I see a very broad connection tying the links together, but nothing that ties all the names together.

I expect Biotop to come along any second now with the complete solution.

So far I only have answers for 2, 3, 6, and 8 but I just have one question …

WARNING Possible HINT BELOW

[sub]Sorry that this might be a giveaway, but is the mistake in number three intentional (i.e. should I be finding more ‘mistakes’ that have a common theme?[/sub]

If you don’t feel the need to answer, that’s okay as well

Oops, sorry, I didn’t read the P.P.P.S.

I’m guessing it’s fair to point out the typos, is it?

If anyone wants to know where it is, read the fine print in my previous post.

I’m pretty sure I’ve found the link between all the links, but still have no clue about the numbers. Money-related, perhaps?

There is, it seems to me, one other typo. The number beside clue 8 should be (23), or (3),or (6),or (9) or (12).

A fun puzzle VOR. I learned a few names I didn’t know before. Got to AT DM EH EL EN IB OR OU RA RS RY SP TH.

Excuse me. The number beside 8 should be (23), or (3), or (6), or (10), or** (14)**.

Got to ER HO MB ME NT OC OU RE WT.
