I came into work Saturday morning to find that our stock was at a bare minimum, at best. Alex put the order in last week, and “missed” a couple of things. By lunchtim on Saturday, we were out of papaer plates, forks, knives, all soda cups except for medium, and garlic. Plates we could make do without because we had those stupid pain-in-the-ass-to-close pizza slice boxes. The silverware pissed people off, because they had to eat spagetti with their fingers, or go steal some from a nearby vendor. The lack of garlic made the food taste pretty bland. I made 6 different trips around the food court with a bag, begging silverware off of the nearby shops. The sausage place hooked us up good, I gave them a free pizza.
As if that weren’t frustrating enough, we ran out of money too. Our usual cash supply for rolled coins and singles and stuff is around $1000. The vice president came in the other day, decided to go shopping for us, and borrowed about $700 of it, leaving us $300 in change going into the weekend. Everyone decided to pay with $20 bills, so in no time flat, we were down to pennies and large bills. I was conning people out of their change…it was pathetic. And if they didn’t have it, I just rounded up to the nearest dollar. My drawer was $17 short…I refused to take blame for it though, because they were the ones who screwed up and made it so I had no change to offer.
And of course, this whole time I was the one who had to deal with the frustrted customers. Alex did the shitty order, but he got to hide in back while I told people they could only order a medium soda, not a large. And they couldn’t have a fork, we were out. I got the bitching…he got to hide out back. If you’re not gonna do the order right, then don’t bother to do it at all!

You seem like a generally cool poster for the most part, and the Pit’s a good place to blow off steam. But for crying out loud, I can practically set my watch to the “Pammipoo bitches about her shitty fast food job” threads.
Consider your audience here. If you’re going to regularly post about this stuff, at least throw us a frickin’ bone and spice it up with some gratuitous profanity, or perhaps incorporate some secret revenge fantasies involving starving weasels and rusty hacksaws. Or something.
'Cause as it is now, you just come off kind of whiny.
Gimmee a large coke and a plate of spaghetti with double garlic.
Can you break a fifty?
Just to balance the somewhat harsher comment above -
I, at least, enjoy reading your rants, Pammipoo. I don’t think you come off as whiny, just seriously underemployed. Well, and irritated, but that’s what the Pit is for, after all. And since I never had to work fast food (though don’t get me started on my teen years slaving over a hot Xerox machine), I appreciate hearing about things from the other side of the counter - keeps me remembering to say “please” and “thank you.” You and Matt keep me in kindness and smiles for the downtrodden burger (and spaghetti, and whatever it is Dairy Queen sells - we don’t appear to have them in these parts) slingers of this world. And you also make me laugh.
And it’s a damn good thing I never did fast food, I can tell you. If I’d come in to find Alex had so royally screwed up my day, I’d’ve made sure his day was screwed, too: every time anyone complained, I’d’ve apologized in tones of ringing sincerity, and then said, “It bothers me, too. But wouldn’t you prefer to speak to the person responsible for this problem?” And then shown 'em to Alex-the-nimrod. I wouldn’t’ve stuck around to mediate, either.
I also was forced to serve a menial position in my teen years, and let me tell you; it sucked shit.
Glad I’m out of that rut!!
I wasn’t food service, though. Grocery Stores. You all know’em and hate’em, and I bet I hate’em more!
And yes; Revenge was always a viable option and was frequently used. Often, on the spur of the moment, it was soemthing heavy thrown at the offending party or said fool being made fun of over the store’s PA system.
Smashing something for them to have to clean up was also a good one. As was chasing them accross the parking lot with a snow shovel.
Yep. Them were the days.
You know, Pammipoo, they’re lucky to have you. I wish there had been more employees like you where I worked. Seriously, on a day like that half my crew would have left.
schief2: Thanks for the links, I got to read more of Pammipoo’s posts without having to wait on the search engine!
Yo, Schief, I dare ya to spend longer than about 20 minutes working fast food and then NOT come into the Pit to bitch about it.
Pammi, you got my 100% permission to come in here and piss and moan about the American Fast Food Industry to your little heart’s content any time you please. If they’d had a Pit back when I was workin’ at Burger King, you can bet I’d have been in here once a day and twice on Sunday with threads that would’ve curled Schief’s hair like quills upon the fretful porpentine, that’s for damn sure…
