If you have nothing nice to say about TubaDiva, then say nothing. If you must bitch about someone, then rather me than her. Most dopers aren’t used to this version of vB despite that many of us are familiar with it from other boards.
Yes, there are boards where you can have custom avatars. These avatars are a pain in the ass. They take a long time to load, and people usually make stupid ones.
Yes, there are boards where you can edit your own posts (the etiquette is to indicate why you edited), but this isn’t one of them, so lay off. There is good reason we can’t edit posts here. Too many people would take advantage of the feature to Alan Smithee their posts.
But I think most people are really just trying to comment or make suggestions too early, and not realizing perhaps that the Board will be a work in progress for a week or more yet.
Avatars can work, and do work, on other Boards - even very low-bandwidth ones. How do I know this…?
There are a large number of people that don’t like smilies either, as they take up bandwidth too. I find it ironic (not referring to you at all here, Lib) that some of the most frequent critics of avatars (because they take bandwidth or are silly) are also the most frequent abusers of smilies. (Oh! The irony! :rolleyes: )
Allowing a “60-second edit” limit would cut down enormously on the posts and view refreshes, as you would not have people posting again and again “oops - mispelled ‘fletch’”, “oops, did it again”, etc.
And if people abused the ability, or abused custom avatars, then ban them.
It’s not that we don’t realize that it is a work in progress, but because we realize it is a work in progress. If we as for a change now, before inertia is set in, we feel like we may get what we want and the change may be made while they are making other adjustments.
I for one what multiple colors of smileys. I miss the rainbow of smilieys.
