LeBron to return to Cleveland

Why wouldn’t you hope Lebron breaks his leg instead?

LeBron didn’t trade him, and what does this have to do with karma?

That’s your job!

I mean, I think you can make compelling arguments either way on this trade. On the one hand, Love brings a ton to Cleveland’s offense and he’s one of the best 15 players in the league, and this is a team that is close to win-now mode because they have the best player in the league as he turns 30. On the other hand, yes, Cleveland could have given this version of the team a test drive for a couple of months. Maybe it would have been great, or maybe it would’ve given them some more proof that they needed to make this deal. But that involves some risks for Cleveland: Wiggins could get hurt or be a bust, Bennett’s reported improvement could amount to nothing, another team could make some kind of stupendous offer, or Love could get hurt. But in either case I don’t see the karmic implications. Wiggins has been in an awkward situation for the last month, for sure. He didn’t do anything to deserve that. Then again, it’s a regular part of being a professional athlete and pretty much every Minnesota player including Kevin Love has been in a situation at least as awkward for a year or three based on the way the Wolves fucked up Love’s last contract.

Karma may not have been the ideal word. I don’t understand why you draft a guy, only to turn around and trade him. I think Bennett just had the misfortune of being in a terrible draft. In a good one, he goes in the bottom of the lottery. This all happened in an effort to please LeBron, and I want it to blow up in his face.

The same reason you trade any player. Wiggins could be really good right away and it’s possible he will be great in a few years. Love is exceptionally good now, and that’s more the time frame Cleveland is working on. A rookie who was just picked #1 pick is the most attractive trade piece any team could possibly have.

Again: why? Wait- is this because Kevin Love isn’t going to the Celtics, which probably wasn’t going to happen no matter what?

Oh, Love to Boston was a pipe dream. (How did you know I’m from Boston? ;)). I just think people are fooling themselves if they believe LeBron is in Cleveland for the long haul.

Given the choice between (making numbers up) 100 million in OKC, and 50 million in Cleveland, he’s heading to OKC. Money trumps loyalty, always has, always will.

He probably is, though of course he’s once again structured his contract in the smartest possible way.

Do you realize how much money he left on the table by going to Cleveland?!

Also, just for shits and giggles, what the hell should any of us care if he’s in Cleveland for the long haul or not. To whom does he owe what, exactly?

He went to Cleveland for 3 reasons:

1)Miami’s roster wasn’t the best anymore/Wade got old.
2)East the weaker conference
3)Grew up in Ohio, desperate to make people like him, or at least make people think he cares what they think.

Yeah, after watching the way the Thunder’s ownership cheaped out on Durant and Westbrook, LeBron’s gonna sign with OKC after Durant bails. Totally plausible.

Do you care why he went to Cleveland?

MOD:.picked OKC off top of head. Point stands, LeBron doesn’t give a rat’s ass about Cleveland. He only cares about how many times he can have Ben Franklin staring back at him, and how many titles he can win. Remember the pep rally in Miami? He wants to beat Jordan.

Money isn’t on your list and winning championships is on there twice. Perhaps you’d like to talk to Paul Pierce about what you get when you’re loyal to a team? When you’re done with him I’ll put in a call to Rajon Rondo.

It’s pretty hard to make that case right now.

Again: do you or do you not understand that he might’ve left a very significant amount of money on the table by going to Cleveland? Also, do you not understand that Oklahoma City/random team can’t just offer him $100 million because that is emphatically not how NBA contracts work? You always get the most money by staying with your current team, which he didn’t do, or at least arranging a sign and trade, which he also didn’t do.

You’re thinking of Kobe (who won’t).

Well, if he cares about titles, then Cleveland looks to be a pretty great situation. And if he cares about money, he can get a pretty fat max deal from Cleveland after the new TV contract kicks in.

Difference is: Pierce is from LA, not Massachusetts. Also, he never held a contrived special just to rub it in his home town’s face. Not to mention, Boston has a long, and also recent, record of winning, unlike Ohiot

  1. Yes
  2. Also yes
  3. I hesitate to believe that Lebron is “desperate” to make people like him, and while I am sure he (like every human ever created) he does want people to like him, there are many many many more people who do like him, than don’t.

T-Cups: did you see the footage of his jersey burning in effigy? He saw that, and wants to undo the anger.

The absurdity of complaining that all a player cares about is money… oh, and championships. And having people like them. What are else do we expect them to care about now? I can’t even keep track.

Oh no, you misunderstood. I know how loyal Paul Pierce was to Boston. I want to talk about the loyalty the Celtics showed Paul Pierce. Last year they decided their team was too old, so they traded him. As a throw-in. Brooklyn wasn’t that interested in him. What they really wanted was Kevin Garnett, but they understood they couldn’t get him without Pierce, so Boston sent them Pierce and made that work. That’s the guy who never demanded a trade despite the fact that the team sucked for years and didn’t have any kind of “recent record of winning.” He wanted to stay there, and that made everybody happy until management decided they wanted to go in another direction. That’s loyalty! Now, do I need to start talking about Rondo?

Right…7 years ago.

Time heals all wounds and at this point in time, the hate/vitriole just isn’t there
