Left-handed video cameras?

I shoot video and am right-handed. And, as far as I can tell, everyone who shoots video professionally is right-handed as every cameras I’ve ever seen is designed for right-hand operation.

What do left-handed people do? Just suffer with it, or are there cameras that are easier to use by left-handed people?

I think they just suffer through it. I’m a righty and would actually prefer to have my dominant hand free while recording.

I’m left handed and it doesn’t bother me. I actually like holding the camera with my right hand and operating the finicky controls with my left hand. Ditto for photo cameras.

I’m a lefty, and I just use the camera right handed. Not a big deal - we southpaws get used to doing some stuff right handed. Until the day when… I’ve said too much.

All pro cameras have a rocker zoom control which falls under the right index and middle fingers. Most of the small consumer cameras of today have a side to side zoom control on the top of back of the camera, which should be a lot easier for a lefty.

Since our digital cameras record video, I’ve never really used a video camera much. So I can’t tell you if being a lefty would be a problem or not.

Probably not, though. With the lone (and rarely encountered) exception of right-handed punch bowl ladles, there’s really nothing about being a lefty in a right-handed world that fazes me much.

Left-handed people do not suffer. Only a right-handed person would make such a comment.
