Leftover ham

Forgot to add: dice ham in small cubes, add to peas with sauteed onion. With some kind of pork chop or something…

I use it anywhere is want to impart a smoky cured meat flavor. Any recipes where bacon or smoked meat is used, I can usually substitute ham. Stews of all sorts, soups of all sorts (not just legume soups, but cabbage or sauerkraut soup, minestrone), dice it into small cubes to use in scrambled eggs, fried rice, etc. It plays well in a lot of foods, especially when diced finely and used as a flavor accent rather than the dominant protein. Hell, you can grind it or throw it in a food processor and use it to flavor meatloaf, meatballs, etc.

Sadly, I can’t eat gluten, but it’s a good idea for normal people.

Dice ham, freeze. Freezes fine, thaws quickly if diced. Good additions to salads, pasta carbonara, scrambled eggs.

I forgot to mention to add 2 tablespoons of chili powder.

Submarine sandwiches with other cold cuts, cheese, lettuce, thinly sliced onions, tomatoes, and hot peppers, all slathered with garlic mayonnaise and horseradish, mmmmmmmmmmmmmm! :o

Cuban black beans, especially if you still have that bone handy (boil them together).

Sliced ham and roast pork together in hot Cuban sandwiches, yum!
