I assume you mean a Switch? You can’t buy the WiiU anymore unless you’re picking up a used unit. And from what I understand the new Switch units are still tough to find on store shelves.
As far as sepearate profiles it’s pretty straight forward. Just a “create new profile” function to add another person. Just have to completely log out of a game before changing profiles.
I am going to start playing with my kids watching/helping on Sunday or Monday. Any tips for someone starting the game? What would be helpful?
OK, now I will tell my little story about how great a Father I am.
The Mahaloth family does not buy the latest anything. My computer is work provided and from 2012. I only ever had a PS2(bought used), PS1(bought when it was going out), Gamecube(bought for $35), and a Wii(my dad gave it to me).
Anyway, my kids and i played Twilight Princess, Wind Waker, and Okami on the Wii. They loved those games. I told them a new Zelda was coming, but only for Wii U and Switch. They were cool with it, very resigned to the fact that we don’t make big purchases often.
This was back in March or so. I even watched gameplay videos with the kids, who always watched, but knew we wouldn’t get it.
Without telling them, I went and sold books, old video games, and even my unused exercise bike. I sold them all online and kept a spreadsheet of how much net profit I made. I told my wife if I can make enough, I’ll buy a Wii U and Breath of the Wild can be my Father’s day gift.
Did it.
Now, the kids have no idea. On Father’s day, I usually only get a little chocolate and some homemade cards or something. This year, the kids will be giving me a present(Hershey’s kisses or something). I’ll say thank you and then…realize…Breath of the Wild is underneath the other gift.
Huh? We don’t even have Wii U! And I’m going to go get it out and tell them we have one now and I’ve got it all ready to play.
Hoping for much cheering. I’m a teacher and my summer vacation, which I spend with my kids a lot, begins the day after Father’s Day.
I’ve never been more excited for Father’s Day in my life. :D:D
The only tips I can give are to try to go into the game completely spoiler free and enjoy the experience of exploring and getting sidetracked.
If you try to rush the process and focus on completing the mian object as quickly as possible you’ll miss 90% of the fun.
Also, don’t get too hung up on hanging onto weapons you think you might need later.
Everything will break eventually, you can only carry so much, and there’s always more to find.
I’ll echo this. Just go out and explore. There is no shame in looking up (online) a specific solve later on in the game, but just play around first. The exploration aspect of the game is absolutely magnificent.
We did the surprise on Friday(2 days early) and the kids went nuts. We played Friday and Saturday and I have one question so far.
We have finished the Great Plateau basic stuff and have just earned the paraglider. Ne
OK, what is up with the numbers on the weapon descriptions? It appears to always be two numbers, with an arrow between them.
You can see it here on the “Vicious Sickle” description. It says 12 —>16.
What are those two numbers exactly telling me?
The first number is the strength of your current equipment, and the second is what the strength will be if you equip the item you have selected. It’s more relevant with armor, because you have multiple pieces equipped so it’s not as obvious sometimes what the result of swapping to a new item will be.
I’m 9 hours in and have completed 8 shrines, using both to up my hearts to 5 total hearts.
Should I put some effort into increasing my Stamina now?
I collect every ingredient I see, by the way. I am heading to Hateno, having just met Impa at Kakariko Village.
I have upgraded my melee weapon slot twice as well.
Whoa.
Just found a source north of the Faron tower that nets you 15+ Hearty Durian fruits(I got 19). Three of these cooked together gets you “full recovery of hearts” and +12 hearts.
How often does fruit regrow/regenerate? This is a place I should visit again.
I just found a shrine where I had to lift a cup/bowl with a ball in it and drop it in a cage to open a door.
My kids were jumping up and down yelling, “Left! No, No, Right!”
It was hilarious and fun.
We have not pursued a single Divine Beast yet. Are they hard? I have 5 hearts, a one-time extended stamina wheel, and a variety of weapons.
5 may be just a slight bit low. But I’m sure folks have done it. I think I was a little higher when I went after my first Divine Beast.
I’m approaching my 6th heart, only one shrine to go. I also have Durian-Fruit-mix that up my hearts to 17(and also heals all actual hearts). I just used on in a shrine for a strength test.
I feel the game gently nudging me to Zora’s Domain. I’ve met a couple people telling me to go help the prince on a bridge somewhat nearby.
Follow up. If I am too weak for the boss of a dungeon, can’t I just exit out and come back after adding a couple hearts or powering up a bit more? I mean, are their fast travel points right before bosses?
I could not manage Zora’s Domain yet, so I went on over to Gerudo Town. I’m having fun and getting nothing else done these days.
This game is addictive!
If you don’t mind, what is hard about it? I mean hard compared to the normal areas I’ve been wandering around in the Southeast portion of the map.
Yeah, you can always bail out and come back later. You really can just go in whatever direction you want, and if you find it tough just go do something else.
It’s just very fast and you have to use the arrows, which I haven’t played with much.
I may give it another go this weekend though.
My kids and I(with Mrs. Mahaloth too sometimes) have played for 2 1/2 weeks.
It’s really just an amazing game. I hope they stick to and even improve this style for all future Zelda games. I commend Nintendo on making such a great game. It’s certainly in my top 5 of all time and is definitely the best Zelda.
We’ve cleared two Divine Beasts, the bird and the elephant. I now have Mipha’s Grace and Revali’s gale. Both have made the game a lot more fun and easier.
I found a labyrinth in the north west region of the game. I love that I found something special like this all on my own.
Following that…I wandered into an “empty” region of the map, an area that had few shrines marked by me. I found a “wisdom shrine” with a Dragon wrapped around it.
I freaking fought the goop off the dragon and did it all from the sky!
I love playing totally unspoiled. My kids and I were cheering when we faced off against that dragon and had no idea it was coming.
Amazing.
I just got the Master Sword yesterday. Wow, what a great surprise. I had to go and trade in stamina for hearts, but I had enough.
Today, I did a trial where had to stealth sneak behind a Korok all the way to a shrine. I was about to “throw my controller” at the TV. Ridiculous. Made it on my 5th or 6th attempt, but annoying as could be.
I caved and looked up a shrine solution today. I’ve solved almost 60(57 I think) and this was my first look up. I feel completely redeemed finding out the solution. I’ll spoiler-box what happened.
You had to pick up a laser beam device. I had no clue those could be picked up. Once I read it could be picked up, the solution was easy as pie. I can’t believe it.
Between Zelda BoTW and Persona 5 I’ve had plenty of video game content over the past few months. I still haven’t beaten either. I on the last Divine Beast, but there is still so much more to do. Honestly Zelda BoTW is one of my favorite games of all time. It’s basically the only reason I got the Switch.
