Snart says he wants to kill Thawne, and has a leave-it-to-my-cleverness plan because they obviously can’t beat the guy without some clever plan. The episode also makes a big point of showing that Thawne – who, really, only did all of this to get that raggedy black speedster neutralized, since it’s the one thing that scares him as if it were his own approaching death – keeps that raggedy black speedster, oh, right there.
You all saw that raggedy black speedster, right? Like, behind glass and on display? Ready to launch itself at Thawne, if only someone would release it?
Felicity buys the farm in the opening sequence - this is the writers apologizing for Season 4 of Arrow, right?
I agree that all that needs to be done to neutralize Thawne is to release the Black Flash. Although it can still be evaded since RF can just not use his speed.
That said, why is the Black Flash even around? You have a magic “Wish for anything” device that’s built so it won’t backfire on you or deliberately misunderstand you, you don’t say “Lock up the thing that’s trying to kill me”, you say “Make it so that the Black Flashes aren’t interested in or looking for me. Oh, and I’m immune to them anyway, just in case.”
I think Thawne’s been careful not to alter the fabric of reality too much, lest there be monkey’s paw or Flashpoint style consequences. Especially with something like the Black Flash, which I don’t think anyone, even Thawne, can understand what it is.
I have to admit, I was surprised the Black Flash wasn’t released, either on purpose by Snart, or accidentally during combat by someone else, during this episode. It was what TV Tropes would call “Chekhov’s Gun–Averted”. OTOH, my husband thinks it will happen next episode.
By the way, you’d think Dahrk could get Thawne with some kind of spell in advance, or while he was sleeping, or something.
I’m guessing Omaya will use the spear to bring Rex back to life right? We never got an explanation on why or how he showed up at the end of last season.
Also, I’m unclear on when Rip recruited the League to hide the spear. I thought he didn’t know them at the beginning of this season?
Even though Supergirl, The Flash, and Arrow are on hiatus until the week of April 24, Legends presents its season finale, “Aruba,” tomorrow night, April 4, at 8:00 E, 7:00 C, one hour earlier than normal.
I’ve got the current episode on pause, a bit over half-way through, so minor spoilers for the episode airing right now (I know we have open spoilers, but this is a currently airing ep, so I wanted to err on the side of caution)
I’m pausing the show because I need to vent for a moment about the utter dumbness of a plot point:
< spoiler space >
I’ve just gotten to the point where the future Legends have gone back in time and got the spear from the past Legends. They’ve convinced each other that they’re all on the up-and-up. They have…maaaaybe…30 minutes before the Legion of Doom shows up. They have the Magic Wishing Spear. They know the sooper-secret incantation. They are paradox-proof and Dungeon-Master-Deliberatly-Misinterpreting their wish proof.
So-SAY THE FUCKING SPELL, AND USE IT TO AT LEAST BUY SOME TIME TO THINK ABOUT WHAT TO DO NEXT. Yeah, it’s scary trying to come up with the wish that will fix this (other than “I wish the Spear of Destiny never had any magic powers and was just a pointy Roman stick”) but “I wish that the Legion of Doom were frozen in time until we make a wish that they’re not, I wish that the Waverider(s) are/were fixed and that nothing interferes with us until we decide what to do.” is easy.
Checkov’s second law: If you have a ULTIMATE Magic Wishing Spear, you have to either use it or explain why it can’t be used. GAH!
Also? Firestorm can transmute stuff. Grab a handful of the Christ’s Blood-saturated dirt and turn the dirt into something inert like argon or krypton or something, leaving the blood behind.
All of that is only exceeded by going back to the same point in time. They know where the blood is. Why not go back before the battle, or before the war even, and just get it? They don’t need JRR any more. And for the second time, they take the blood out of the protective box. Time deserves to be broken with these doofuses trying to save it.
My head hurt trying to keep track of whether I was looking at the future version or the past version. Sara was kind enough to wear black vs white, but the others put on the same Great War uniforms as their past selves. I eventually figured out that if anyone bought it (e.g., Nick, Jax) that was the future version sacrificing themselves, since they knew they’d be erased from history anyway. I guess you don’t get time remnants if you’re not a speedster.
I can understand returning Malcolm Merlyn back to 2017, since that was the time he was recruiting for the Legion of Doom. But what’s the deal with returning Snart to 2014 and Darhk to 1984? Wouldn’t there have been earlier version of themselves already there? What happens to those earlier versions? And does that mean Captain Cold won’t be forming the Rogues for next season of The Flash?
One more loose end: When did/would Rex Tyler go forward in time to warn the Legends about monkeying with the timeline?
Yes, unfortunately. No more Legends until next season. Fortunately, we do know there is going to be a next season as all four DC shows have already been renewed.
Yes, I understand the reasoning behind those particular points in time. (Although 2014 is when, I think, Rip recruited Snart for the Legends.) What question is about the previous iterations of Snart and Dahrk that were already in place at the time. What happens to those versions?
Why are you assuming there’s already a version there, when there weren’t two before? They were taken to the point they were recruited…the point where there ceased to be any version of them at that point in history.
Because we saw Snart get recruited by Rip in 2014. Rory brought unreformed, evil Snart back to that same point, to be recruited by Rip and thus learn to become a better man. So back in 2014 there are now two Snarts, the original Snart whom we saw go through the Hero’s Journey of S1 Legends and the one Rory did a Men in Black mindwipe on. Which one is Rip going to recruit now?
I think there’s only one Snart - the Snart who was about to go on his Hero’s journey was picked up by Thawne at (say) 7:59:59PM, went through all sorts of Legion of Doom-ery, and then was returned by Rory at 8:00PM, where in a short time he will go on his Hero’s journey with Rip. The Snart we saw go through Season 1 turns out to be a Snart who had some evil adventures and had his memories wiped.
