lekatt, JUST SHUT UP!

No, seriously. lekatt, in this thread, you toss out quite a few astounding comments and pretend that you have a grasp of Science.

Post 24:

People believe in spiritual things because it makes them feel good. Science, on the other hand, is not a spiritual exercise. It’s a methodology based on evidence.

Post 32:

This is false. The very basic idea in the Scientific method is reproducability (I hope I got the right word for that). If an experiment cannot be reproduced, it’s worthless.

The rest of your posts in that thread are flat-out lies and pandering to yourself. When other posters have proven to you that the links you tout do not assert what they say they do, you continue to tout them. You assertion that scientists are anti-spiritual will come as quite a surprise to the very many religious scientists who not only practice but are even employed by their faith groups.

Oh, I almost forgot to quote tomndebb’s wonderful post #174 to you:

In short: you are dishonest, you have absolutely no idea of what the Scientific Method entails, let alone even what Science is. And you certainly should quit hijacking threads into your utter drivel about near death experiences. I’ve long given up hope on your ceasing to be a lying sack of jerk on these boards, but at least I can hope that you’ll quit your insane hijacking to tout your insane “theories.”

A lekatt Pit? Is it the first of the month already? If not, you’re ahead of schedule.

I attribute it to three things:

[ol][li]I’m on the other side of the International Date Line,[/li][li]Today’s the last working day of the month; therefore,[/li]The first of the month is on a weekend.[/ol]

I have no problem with lekatt’s stance on spirituality and the afterlife, other than that I disagree with it.

I do have a problem with the fact that even his initial posts to a debate are superior and dismissive. I also have a problem with not only his misunderstanding of science and of scientific theories, but that he honestly doesn’t seem to care about learning. And I do have a problem with his hypocrisy in claiming closed-mindedness in others when he is the one refusing to even dignify being hypothetically wrong, and using non-debate-conducive language. That he claims to follow a “God of Love” on top of all that is just the icing on the hypocrisy cake. He’s a pretty crappy follower.

Oh, and also he appears to be dense. But that isn’t his fault.

Just to leave you with a couple of fun quotes from his website;

Words worth remembering.

And in today’s news, Lekatt [gasp] engages in Lekatting. After the break, a story on water found to be wet!

Hey, Monty old son, I’ve got a wall over here =>
You’re welcome to bang your head on it. It’s a little softer than Lekatt’s skull, and you’ll be achieving as much.

I suppose next you are going to Pit that crazy naked guy down on the corner screaming “Repent! The end is near”…

He’s being more stupid than usual in this one. Even after those who have bothered to read his NDE cites refute them, he keeps on posting them. And then he accuses scientists of being dogmatic.

If he were just stupid, I wouldn’t care. People have explained stuff to him using small easy to understand words, and he still doesn’t bother to even try to understand it.

“Science can be created only by those who are thoroughly imbued with the aspiration toward truth and understanding. This source of feeling, however, springs from the sphere of religion”
Albert Einstein

Oops.

Couldn’t a NDE be something like, oh, I dunno, surviving a severe car crash, or a devastating heart attack? Or even being brought back to life in the hospital after flat-lining or whatever?

I mean, you DID nearly die and all…

Strictly speaking, there are no identical experiences. Reproducibility doesn’t require or expect identical result, just results with the range of experimental and statistical uncertainty.

But you are right in the wider sense. If two people see a car, we can assume they have seen the same car even if their estimates of its size are a bit different. If one sees a white truck, and the other a red Mustang though, not so much. lekatt answered by saying that the names of deities being different doesn’t matter, showing he’s too dense to come anywhere near the point.

Thanks, Voyager. I was a bit worried that I was being over-broad with the definition when I posted that.

Hey, I wonder how the pittee would account for the simple fact that when I was “clinically dead” (flat-lined) during an operation in my youth, I experienced absolutely none of those so-called NDE experiences. Maybe he’ll claim that I did but just don’t remember them.

No this is not more stupid than usual at all. Read the link in my earlier post. It is normal. He is completely impervious. Arguing with him is utterly pointless, and because he is so dishonest, annoying to boot.

Well, like I said, technically, that was a “near death experience”, since you experienced it, and you “nearly died.”

To expand on that, if you read the posts in the thread to which I linked, you will find that Lekatt is not merely a problem here: his obtuseness is legendary on usenet and has been for eons. He is, quite frankly, not sane. I stopped debating him when I realised that doing so was the equivalent of poking a mentally deranged person through the bars of a cell.

Monty, get rid of that last sentence, your post probably passes muster for GD, and lekatt might see it. I’m pretty sure he has stated he stays out of the Pit in the past.

Well, certainly, if you want to use the term sensibly. The term is, in general, applied in the way lekatt uses it, to refer to an alleged “spiritual” experience in such a circumstance.

Most normal families have a “crazy uncle” or somesuch. But they still invite him to Thanksgiving dinner(sorry, non-USA types). We are so blessed. You just enjoy the day, and hope that you don’t see him until the next holiday.

Naturally. I just wondered what his reaction would be if one pointed that out to him.

(lekatt, not Monty)

Perhaps, but sometimes it’s fun.

Well, has has posted in the Pit four times. That shows me he does read the Pit, even if he doesn’t participate much in it. My interest, really, in this thread is to provide a place for those whose exasperation with him have driven them to Pitesque levels. They can then post here and not chance violating the rules of the GD forum.

Ugg. I just went and read the thread linked from the OP. That’s 10 minutes of life I’ll never get back; I might as well have just smoked a cigarette and shaved those minutes off the other end of my life.

Near as I can tell, lekatt is the worst possible thing on the SDMB, short of a sock puppet or something: ignorance can be fought, but people who are willfully ignorant and refuse to be corrected are just plain fuckin’ poison.
