Add me to the list of Dopers with strong spiritual beliefs who firmly believe Lekatt is somewhere below idiots and just above paramecium.
Could we call him a “fluffy bunny”, perhaps? By “fluffy bunny”, I mean the kind of person who has apparently given no thought to his or her beliefs, yet insists on cramming them down people’s throats. It’s useful in that it’s not limited to any one religion. For example, the pagan form would be the sort of person who insists that everything in nature is good for you and condemns you for poisoning your body while overlooking the existense of such wonderful natural products as hemlock, etc. The Christian form would be the sweet little old lady who assures you “God loves you” and then proceeds to tell you you’ll burn in hell for all eternity because you don’t follow her particular form of Christianity. The latter is what lekatt reminds me of some time.

Eh, yes and no. Yes, I was raised Catholic, but I no longer practice, and I consider myself more of a vague theist. However, I always say that “you can take the girl out of the Catholic church, but you can’t take the Catholic church out of the girl.” So a LOT of it is still with me, even though for all intents and purposes, I don’t really consider myself a Catholic anymore. I believe in a god, or something, but that’s about it.
But that’s besides the point, I was making to lekatt, that one can be a scientist AND still believe in god, or a higher power, or whatever.
Argent Towers I believe in a G-d who is omniscient, omnipotent, and whose mercy is without limit. I feel His presence in my daily life, and try to do His will.
I also believe that Lekatt is a lying, closeminded, submoron. I’ve avoided threads with him since the powers that be said I had to stop posting about EtherPsychology, NonCorporealConsciousnessFields, and Screwtape poisoning. Without those tools, and things like logic and reasoned debate having failed, I was left only with personal insults, or the truth. Personal insults are not allowed in GD. Showing Lekatt the truth of his life and himself is simply too cruel.
Lekatt literally still uses cites which were objected to and debunked in the first thread he showed them to us. Every thread, the same points must be explained to him. Every thread he re-uses already disproven arguments. I still say he should be banned on the grounds of willful and aggressive ignorance.
Just a thought, could he be going senile?
The only time I ever really rooted for him though was when he went up against His4ever. Now THAT was funny!
Yeah. I don’t care if he’s underhanded enough in his insults that he doesn’t get warned for them (has he ever been warned?) He’s constantly insulting, and when he posts in threads, he takes them over. He’s one of the main reasons I don’t spend time in GD because the threads I’d like to read there end up polluted my his idiocy.
He should be banned because he has made it crystal clear that he has absolutely zero interest in productive discussion - he lies constantly, he doesn’t acknowledge what others say, and he constantly says the most insulting things about anyone who doesn’t share his beliefs. Simply put, having folks like lekatt around guarantees that the SDMB is a little shittier for the rest of us. Why should any reason beyond that be required to ban him?
It seems like that to you only because you are relatively new here. I mean that in the nicest possible way – you simply have not yet felt the full horror of lekatt. Thank the god or spiritual power that you believe in for your fortune.
I realize that this, and other replies to you, may read like: “You’re a clueless newbie, be quiet.” In many online communities, a rough consensus is enforced not by the best or most convincing arguments but by the loudest and most forceful personalities. The iconoclasts to this consensus are unjustly vilified, especially when they “touch a nerve,” as you put it.
Please understand that is not the case in this instance. The disdain shown towards lekatt may be the only truly universally-agreed to tenet of this board, even above things like “don’t be a jerk” and fighting ignorance. To be sure, most of the disdain is an outgrowth of the latter two ideas, but lekatt manages to infuriate nearly every single poster that he [del]debates[/del] [del]discusses with[/del] [del]argues with[/del] tries to beat into submission. The man insists on his version of spirituality, but never defines it in any specific. Nor is this spirituality consistent in its application, even within the content of a single post. What I am saying is the entire spirituality spectrum, from Madalyn Murray O’Hair to Pope Benedict XVI is unacceptable to him. Conversely, he also manages to infuriate people from across that same spectrum.
In contrast to those iconoclasts I referred to above, the vilification that lekatt receives here is more than justly earned.

To repeat a serious point, Lekatt claims to have had a near death experience. There is no evidence whatsoever he was even near death. He did not flatline while at a hospital. He was not observed by others to suffer a heart attack and given CPR.
He claims to have had a heart attack while in bed, and to have had an NDE at that time. There is zero evidence he had a heart attack.
In fairness to lekatt, most cats look insane.

One more vote for “Show it to us!” I admit these are two of the posters I’ve disliked most, but I still want to see it.

Add me to the list of Dopers who absolutely, positively hates lekatt. After all the slander he threw toward Michael Schiavo with a thread of evidence and no defence I never liked him since. I like him less and less as I see his stance on NDEs and spooks. Not just because he believes it. But because he believes it, and thinks that people who don’t believe are willfully not believing or there is a conspiracy against it.
I’m not spiritual/religious though, sorry. But that’s not why I hate him. He drives me batty because he’ll sit there, parroting the same thing. **tomndebb ** gently explains. He sits there, parroting. Someone else gently chides him. He parrots.
I wish there was a way to kick him out of GD. I thought you were supposed to back up your opinions there, and not just spew them everywhere. I really like reading other people’s posts in GD, and he really makes it unpleasant.
