Leonard Nimoy has died.

It will be on MeTV tomorrow night.

Not doubting his many other talents, but for me Spock is now dead and that means a whole era of my life has closed. Thank you Leonard. Beam him up Scotty!

Shatner:

And of course since Shatner is only worth $300 million dollars or so, he couldn’t afford to charter an air taxi to fly him back later after the performance or early the next morning.

You cannot spoil a Columbo. It’s not about what happens, it’s about watching Columbo do his thing.

All that is quite true.

However, it’s worth noting that we’re talking about an 83-year-old man. It’s not absolutely impossible that he might have good reason to try to minimize stress (abrupt time-zone jumps, tight travel deadlines, etc.).

Fair enough. (The original-series episodes certainly do hold up to repeated viewings.)

Right. Because he’d be travelling westward, getting on a plane immediately after the event could place him in LA early morning PST. But he’d be taking a beating to get there. We don’t want Shatner dropping dead (or falling asleep) at Nimoy’s funeral.

I gather you’re being sarcastic, but you have to admit that would be a rather unpleasant development. (Particularly for Shatner!)

What was his motive?

True, that’s the format; the show always opens with the perp committing the crime on-camera, there’s no mystery as to whodunit.

They’re medical researchers who’ve developed a treatment that’ll make 'em real rich real soon – or maybe they need to do a lot more testing? Nimoy thinks it’s the former, so his trusting colleague needs to stop breathing.

True, but in there’s often a mystery as to How they dunit (or How they almost got away with it), as in this case.

Astronaut \//-salutes Nimoy from orbit.

Almost always. There are about three episodes where the villain isn't revealed until the end.

:frowning:

I’m seeing little tributes to him - typically a quote of his - on quite a few science and engineering websites. Don’t think I’ve seen them all do that for anyone else.

I just had a thought for a fitting tribute image:

Shatner, Mark Hamill, Kier Dullea, Kyle MacLachlan, Bruce Boxleitner, and every living Doctor Who still around, all in costume, giving the Vulcan Salute.

I heard this news Friday while at work. I didn’t mention it to my co-workers, though knowing who Mr. Nimoy is, they would mostly be ‘meh’. Saturday I was helping a friend paint and she and I teared up when we spoke of it. We are both fans of the entire Star Trek franchise. (now if I could just get her to watch Doctor Who). Oh, and the tears were because of the drywall dust, yeah, that’s it…yeah…

Rest in peace, Mister Nimoy. You shall live long and prosper in our memories.

 Idungetit. A tribute sounds nice, but why just those people in particular? (Okay, the inclusion of Shatner I do get.)

So, I see that Westboro Baptist church is planning to protest the funeral. That’s one I’d like to show up for the counter protest. My sign would be:

Hate is illogical.
