Apparently he’s transferring to McNeese State.
I think I saw one report that it was synthetic marijuana. I’m pro-legalization and all, but he was told over and over that he needed to stop doing it for rules and legal reasons and he didn’t. He’ll get drafted after the season anyway, but I bet he’ll go later, which means he has probably cost himself a significant amount of money and maybe earned one or two strikes against him in the minds of coaches and GMs.
Another coddled, pampered, spoiled 20-year old know-it-all punk who has been taught (often by coaches, peers and family members alike) that the normal rules didn’t apply to him since back when he was a 10-year old little kid playing Pee-Wee league ball.
This is sad. Kid had another chance at a National Championship and being drafted early in the first round. Whatever he did, he’s thrown that away.
I think his size would have kept him from being a first round pick; at least not early first round. He might have gone early in the second round. His pass coverage ability got exposed in the BCS Championship Game against Alabama. I think he will probably have more success in the NFL returning punts. (Roll Tide!) ![]()
Once he’s in the league though, smoke away!
The NFL also tests for recreational drugs like weed, although I think those tests are only done during the season. And players who have a history of drug use (as Mathieu already does) get drug tested more often.
This doesn’t really describe Matthieu. He wasn’t highly recruited out of HS; in fact, several D-1 schools turned him down for scholarships. LSU took a chance on an unknown and it worked out…but only for a year or two.
It did go to his head, but not b/c of coaches and family. Peers and friends maybe. University and media hangers-on, almost certainly. His family seems down to earth enough. And it should be obvious that his coaches stressed that the rules most certainly applied to him.
I don’t see him as a “punk.” Moreso a immature kid who didn’t know how to handle his jump to fame and didn’t know how to handle the peer pressure and the siren call of weed.
He better use his year at D-1AA to get his act together. Just ask Fred Davis and Trent Williams what happens to NFLers who test positive for recreational drugs.
Yes, coddled and pampered from an early age when is dad was in prison and his mom not around, living at his grandparents house and then eventually adopted by his aunt/uncle.
I think you are about as wrong as you can be in your assumptions on this one. This is a person using drugs to deal with personal issues and until he gets those straightened out the pattern is typically one of continuing to screw up.
Is this meant to be a whoosh?
Reports say Mathieu has entered drug rehab.

I’m a little surprised people are even still talking about him after that game. Honey Badger got schooled!
Dickweed will still probably be a millionaire.
Yeah, I’ve referred to him as The Honey Fraud since the BCS Title Game. ![]()
Exchange between two of my friends on Twitter during the game:
Friend #1: I like the way they’re exploiting Honey Badger’s lack of size.
Friend #2: I like the way they’re exploiting his lack of talent.
Who goes to rehab for weed?
A guy hoping to get a multi-million dollar NFL contract?
Apparently they’re afraid he may get into harder drugs so they need to nip it in the bud…so to speak.

Whats a “Twitter”? ![]()

It must be some killer bud to make those kids be that stupid.
