Personally, I think this is probably one of the worst Ideas I’ve heard, but you just never know what will work.

I take it back, this is actually worse:
It’s really not that bad. I’ve seen the show three times so far since it opened in previews in NYC (opening night is April 25.) It got negative reviews in the pre-Broadway tryout in San Francisco back in January so they have significantly worked on the show and changed storylines, songs, choreography, etc. It’s not perfect (the book has some problems), but the actors are amazing and the music is good. I am really hoping the show does well, not least of all because I know the lead actor and he’s such a great guy & deserves much success.
Well, if he’s the guy in the commercials, he’s hot anyway!
If nothing else he can get work on soaps or something to tide him over till he gets what he wants.
I wish him the best.
Well, if Dance of the Vampire and Dracula are any indication, vampire musicals do not do good on Broadway.
I think he’s a bigger name than you seem to think. It’s Hugh Panaro, an extremely big name in the Broadway community. He’s played the title character in Phantom of the Opera a gazillion times, and been in *Les Mis, Side Show, *and Show Boat on Broadway.
As for the show, although I haven’t heard good things, I’m going to reserve judgment until I see it and just try to have faith in my man Elton.
Yup, Hugh’s a pretty well-respected and popular guy on Broadway, he just finished his run as the Phantom back in October & was one of the most praised to play the role, behind Michael Crawford. (He’s also about to start work on his first solo album for Sony Classical, as soon as he gets the time to do it. These past 2 months have been extremely hectic.) I heard Elton after the show earlier this week and he is very pleased with the changes that have been made since San Francisco. (As am I, btw. The show is much tighter now and flows a lot better. Each night brings new additions however so I am curious to see what will be different yet again come opening night.)
Well, I live well outside the community in which he is known, so, yeah, easily he’s bigger than I would have expected. I try to keep up with things, but Louisville is not a hotbed of Broadway information.
Glad to hear he’s doing well and I hope this becomes a signature role for him (Like Phantom for Crawford).
