Long-time Islander fan, finally able to come out of hiding, checking in…
I’m just happy to be in post-season hockey; taking down Toronto would just be icing.

C’mon, it was hardly a terrible game. It was fast, exciting, and the result could have gone either way - all the things that make for good hockey.
No matter what the result was, it was still a good game.
A Canucks/ToiletBowls final would be cool, but it would give the bookies fits, I’m sure.
I didn’t mean terrible like that. I think a better word would have been infuriating. But to dominate like that and get beat by four garbage goals on a sleepwalking goaltender? I was at the game, and trust me, it felt pretty terrible.
I’m wondering if Sue Dunhym got some seats last night to see the Sharks bite some arse. Are you there, Sue? Woo-hoo!
I would watch Minnesota vs. Atlanta if it was sudden death and something was on the line.
The NHL playoffs RULE. And doubly so in overtime. Triple if it’s Game 7.
Woohooo!!!
Montreal beats Boston: 5-2!
Toronto beats New York: 3-1!!
I was getting worried with the 2 period snoozefest in Toronto, but things really broke open in the 3rd.
A nice start to the playoffs for the Canadian teams. Except for Ottawa, but nobody expects anything from the Sens anymore.
WOOHOOO!
5-2 Canucks!!
GO CANUCKS GO! WOOOOHOOOOO!!!
Canes win again!
Take that Mr. Yax
It looks like the Canucks own Detroit’s ass right now doesn’t it? Maybe the Wings should bench Hasek and play their backup when they hit Vancouver since he hasn’t been able to stop shit. Mind you, if Bowman wants to keep Dom in net that’s will be fine with me and everyone else who is cheering for the lowly Canucks.
I think I might grow to love the Canes if they keep beating the Devils cause anyone who beats the Devils can’t be all bad can they?
I didn’t manage to get in yesterday but have to say that the Habs beating Boston by 5-2 in their opener can only bode well for the games to come. Methinks that Boston wasn’t taking the Habs seriously enough and thought they could just pummel them into submission. Koivu and Audette have taken so much pain this season that a few bumps from the big bad Bruins isn’t going to mean dick… they combined for 8 points the other night and they haven’t even gotten warmed up yet.
The Habs are healthy, with Koivu and Audette back they are the same team that started out the season by kicking everyone’s asses.
A Vancouver final wouldn’t be out of the realm of possibility right now… that would be too sweet.
Woo Fucking Hoo!!!
I know… Montreal got beaten by Boston or rather… Boston held on to preserve a win but I am pretty happy to see what Ottawa has done to Philadelphia over the past two games and the whole series. The Flyers have only scored one goal… in overtime. Other than that… nada…zip…zero. Patrick Lalime has racked up three shutouts in regulation time, he must think he’s Patrick Roy or something. Oh wait… Roy has been scored on repeatedly by the L.A. Kings during that series. It was good to see the Kings take one tonight.
I’m looking forward to tonight, if Theodore can get settled in early and not sell the farm the Bruins are going to be toast.
Fortunatly, the Sens are playing the Flyers. Many people expect the world of the Flyers but they don’t deliver. Don’t they just turn to shit in the playoffs?
If they don’t get out of the first round this year, Bobby Clarke has to be gone. He gave away the prime of the Flyers draft picks for 3 years to get a 39 centre who has done nothing. But hey, maybe he can sign Belfour in the off season. It would be par for the course. A $7 mil a year contract to a goalie who has started to slip.
Well, I am looking forward to 2003-'04 season when the Stars regain their possesion of the Stanley Cup.
They were down 3-1 in the second period and it looked like all would be lost but my beloved Habs showed what they were made of tonight by scoring 4 unanswered goals and beating the Bruins by a score of 5-3.
Boston didn’t know what hit them. For the record it was Audette and Gilmour scoring 53 seconds apart with Koivu netting the go ahead goal in the third period and getting two assists to boot. Not bad for a guy who missed all but two of the last two regular season games huh?
And it looks like the Wings aren’t ready to roll over and die as they beat the Canucks tonight by a score of 4-2.
Maybe there’s a Detroit-Montreal final in the works.
And no… Lola hasn’t suddenly developed an interest in the greatest game on earth.
I have to remember to check and see who’s logged on.
Tied 2 - 2 now! Thank God the Wings found their rhythm and are now smoking Vancouver at home!
Holy mother of crap… who would have thought that the Flyers would break Boston’s record ?
The Flyers have gone 316 minutes and 43 seconds without a postseason goal in regulation, this shatters the previous mark of 277:44 set by the Boston Bruins from 1933-35.
They are now facing elimination at the hands of The Ottawa Senators formerly known by many as “Those Fucking Choke Artists”. Lalime has joined a small group of goaltenders who have recorded three consecutive post season shutouts and should he close the door one more time he will stand alone, as no goalie has ever had four consecutive shutouts in the playoffs. He probably won’t care as much about that as the fact the Flyers would then be eliminated by a team no-one thought had a chance.
The penalty shot in the Leafs -Islanders game was awesome, if you’re an Islanders fan. Bates was the first Islander ever to score on a penalty shot in the post season and that gave them the win over Toronto and tied the series at 2-2.
I didn’t see this goal, my damned cable has been out since Monday. However, I think that the NHL needs to change the rules, or at least encourage the refs to call more penalty shots. The fans love them, and they are TV friendly for hi-lite shows. Also, they very rarely decide a game.
Many hockey fans will tell you that the game isn’t exciting with the way that scoring is down over the last 8 or 9 years, yet the NHL will not do anything to rectify the situation, even though there are a few things that could be done right away that have a chance to improve the game. Penalty shots, and more of them are at the top of the list. However, penalty shots should never, and I mean never, be used to determine the outcome of a game. If it is a penalty that warrents a penalty shot, like last night, that is fine. The idea of a shoot-out is a blight upon the game and hopefully will never come to fruition.
I woke up Li’l Ms. D_Odds accidentally when Bates scored. I thought it was a pretty good call. Bates would have had an uncontested shot, albeit at a difficult angle, on Josephs had he not had his legs taken out with a pretty hard swing of the stick.
I don’t think hockey is any more low scoring over the past 8-9 years than before, but that’s my subjective view. American audiences generally seem not to like low scoring sports contests; it’s why soccer never really caught on (IMNSHO).
I think that I didn’t clearly state my position. Scoring has gone down, the numbers show as much. I don’t mind low scoring games. In the playoffs a 1-0 or 2-1 game can be a real edge of your seat event. Generally, a 2-1 game in the regular season is a boring clutch and grab fest.
Sundin has a broken wrist, and will miss the rest of the playoffs http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/hockey/2002/playoffs/news/2002/04/25/sundin_out/
This could help the Isles beat the odds (D_Odds?) and make the next round.
And I agree, clutch and grab is boring.
