I’m going to have to vehemently disagree with this assessment (and hope and pray that you got it backwards).
Sorry. There are no teams in sports that ‘DESERVE’ a championship. Bragging rights need to be EARNED on the ice. For several years the Sens have shown themselves to be worthy competators during the regular season, only to melt down in the playoffs. When they win 16 games in the playoffs they will DESERVE the Cup. I think that even a mouthbreathing Oilers fan could agree with that, right Feynn?
I live in Ottawa, and would love to see the Sens win the Cup… Assuming that they do not lose to my Leafs again.
Toronto has the toughest road of any team in the playoffs this year. I want them to win it all, but in order t odo so, they would have to beat 4 100 point teams in all probability, in what would be the hardest road ever to drink for Lord Stanley.
Philly - 100+ points
NJ - 100+ points
Ottawa - 100+ points
Det/Col/Dal/Van - 100+ points
Looks like Mission Impossible. However, I REALLY REALLY want them to do it. GO LEAFS! Of course, when they do win it, you won’t hear the end of it in Canada (especially from us obnoxious Leaf fans for the 30 years it will take for us to win another.
GO LEAFS GO!!!
I was at the Sens game Saturday. We were in the Corel centre, about three rows behind the bench.
Sens 3, Islanders 0.
A shutout game is thing of beauty. I’m predicting the Sens will win it in 5 games.
Well, they will cause my mom called it. On October 29, 2002 she said “when the Ducks win the Stanley Cup”, she didn’t say if, she absolutely said when.
Maybe I should start at the beginning of how Mom called the winner so that ya’ll can just put your money back in your pocket and not have to stress your hearts rooting for some other team that is gonna lose anyway.
You might not recognize the date of October 29, 2002 as a famous one in history, but trust me it is. It was the date the Anaheim Angels had their victory parade(s) for becoming World Champions. The parents and me went to Edison field where we awaited the arrival of the boys. My mother then said “If the Angels have their victory parade from The Pond to Edison Field, when the Ducks win the Stanley Cup, what will their victory parade route be?”
So this is the year the Stanely Cup will reside in Anaheim all cause Mom said so.
GO DUCKS
As an Avalanche fan, allow me to say “ha ha!” to all you Wings fans. Down 3-0. Good luck coming back from that.
Oh yeah, did you guys see the expression on the face of that Wild player (Walz, I think) after Roy made that save on him? He went from the beginning of a goal celebration to looking like someone ran over his puppy in about a half a second. That was sweet.
There seems to be a strong possibility that the Wings are going to drown in the Anaheim pond…
deb… with no disrespect intended I have to say that your mom is suffering from delusions if she thinks the Grail will be resting in Anaheim when the dust settles.
That road to the final is a long one and what is great about the playoffs is that you never know what is going to happen, like having the Ducks poised to sweep Detroit in the opening series.
I’m looking forward to tomorrow night, I’ve changed my work schedule so that I can settle in and watch the Oilers take game four before they head back to Dallas.
Feynn, no disrespect taken. Ducks are playing strong and I think they will surprise everyone. In the end, all of you will wish you had put a c-note on the Ducks to lift the cup. (Did you see the line for Ducks vs Red Wings, it was like 800, -500, WOW)
deb not really a gambler 2world
Leafs are going to win the Cup…
And then you wont be able to shut our obnoxious asses up for another 30 years till we win again!
Once the Leafs get a taste of champagne from Lord Stanley’s mug this year, it will be years before they give it back to the rest of the league!!!
Maybe I’m thinking too far ahead…
GO LEAFS GO!!!
Sweet sufferin’ Moses in the bullrushes.
So I rush home after work yesterday, knowing that as I sat with the rest of the sheep on the bus, the Sens were in the midst of combat with New York. I get home, bust into the apartment, condescend to give my wife a nod before picking up the remote, plump down on the couch, and turn on CBC.
Vancouver/St. Louis? Urm. No, thanks, I love Vancouver and all, and should the unthinkable happen and Ottawa lose, I would love to cheer them on, but I want the Ottawa-New York game.
All right. ESPN. Yeesh. Colorado/Minnesota? Nono. Thanks, but no.
K, try a search on the fantabulous digital cable menu option. Holy crap, there’s an ESPN 2? Try that. Philadelphia/Toronto. Puhleez. Where’s Ottawa? Run another search. Of all the friggin’ sports channels I apparently signed up for, there’s one more showing Stanley Cup playoffs.
Fingers crossed, I press the “OK” button. Slowly the screen digitizes…text appears: “Stanley Cup Playoffs - Ottawa at New York. Pay Per View Only.”
I followed the game by checking online betting sites offering real-time score updates. How remarkably unexciting.
Devils beat the Bruins. Hah! Told you guys. Now who’s next?
Well… fuck.
It looks like we’ll have to head back to that burning wasteland (a.k.a. Dallas) and see what can be done about taking game five.
Blackeyes - It would seem the Bruins broke out a six pack of whupass on the Devils tonight… 5-1… ouch!
I have got to go with Scotty Bowman when he says that they need to put a circle around the net… and if the goalie leaves the circle he’s fair game. Allowing the goalie to check players with impunity while drawing an interference penalty anytime someone touches him is bullshit.
From the frozen wasteland to the burning wasteland, huh? At least the trees are now green here.
If I were you, I’d be more worried that the Stars played the way they can, and the Oilers couldn’t respond. I’d be worried that despite all the runs you took at him, Turco has found his form. I’d be worried that too many Oilers are taking incredibly stupid penalties. You may also want to worry about the fact that the Oilers cheap and continued efforts to goad Hatcher into a another misconduct failed. Somebody may mention to Comrie that if he was sucessful with his slewfooting/ punching attack, that he’d have to play against Hatcher again next season.
I thought that going into this game, that the first team that wins 2 in a row will win the series. Dallas is in good shape, and I look forward to reading the Oilers laments yet again.
Adam, neither team has won two in a row and each has won a game in the other’s barn. It’s been a great series.
I think we know what the Oilers can do to Dallas as was evidenced in games 1 and 3. We know that Dallas is a great team as evidenced by games 2 and 4.
I’d be worried that the Oilers will once again be playing their A game when they hit Dallas in Game 5 and play the way they can.
I’d be worried that the Oilers could be the first team to win two in a row by taking games 5 and 6. This series could just as well go right to game 7.
No-one has to goad Hatcher into taking another misconduct, he seems able to get those on his own.
Comrie has been a disappointment thus far, having come into the playoffs with a -18 rating and not being much of a factor in the games that have been played. This would be why MacT has cut his ice time and played the guys who are on top of their game… depth is a good thing.
And speaking of form… Giguere seems to have found his by stopping 133 of 137 shots against the scoring machine that is the Red Wings and backstopping his team to give them a 3-0 edge in their series. If the Wings fail to solve Giguere then they will become the third team in history to be swept after winning the Stanley Cup.
The Wings are sucking so badly they have their own thread in the Cafe. Perhaps we should tell some of the folks posting in there that they can come in here and vent after the Wings are eliminated.
Oh yeah… Dallas sucks.
Shit, I’d rather see that than that fucking DIVE that Salo took when Morrow breezed past him and got called for GI.
Welcome back to the burning wasteland…
You mean the whole time that said BOSTON?!
I blame my contacts for this oversight.
Let me ask you an honest question. Do you consider Hatchers’ third man in misconduct to be a good call? He pulled Smith off of Boucher after Smith skated from inside the Edmonton blue line, to behind the Stars goal line and jumped Boucher from behind. Before you just answer yes, would you change your mind if the situation was reversed?
Bummer about Dvorak. Sometimes the euros have trouble adapting to the physical game. For instance, Dvorak has now learned that the boards aren’t going to get out of his way.
Feynn, right now I want to extend the peace pipe, at least for tonight, so that we may concentrate on the bigger picture. That is, of course, cheering the Ducks on to victory.

Woot! Go Sens Go! Sens beat the Islanders tonight 3-1, which incidentally, is exactly their series lead in their Eastern Conference quarter-final.
And the leafs lost in the third overtime to the Flyers 3-2. That was an exciting game! I was on the edge of my seat for about an hour! And the Leafs are in a 3-2 lead in their quarter final. So, the Flyers will have to get it together, and quick.
I don’t know much about hockey, but it sure is exciting to watch!
