Nothing, actually. Though some of their fans didn’t quite seem to catch on to the fact that the band wasn’t taking any of it seriously.
I was giggling to myself when I looked up all those old bands, because I actually listened to most of those bands back then (my collection of Chris Sheppard compilations was epic… and we won’t even talk about the 2Unlimited greatest hits album that’s gathering dust in the basement) In my defense, I was in my late teens, an age when most of us listen to some pretty awful dreck.
I never sank so low as to listen to B4-4, though. A girl’s gotta have some standards.
Robin Sparkles’ “Let’s Go To The Mall” - an homage to all the girl singers of the 80’s and early 90’s (Alanis Morrissette and Debbie Gibson, I’m really looking at you!). (Not an actual song, but fans of “How I Met Your Mother” might recognize it. :D)
Those of you familiar with Ricky Gervais, creator of The Office, actor in that and various dodgy movies, and standup comedian, may also be interested in his absolutely dreadful 1980s new romantic group Seona Dancing.
Oh, and another absolutely fantastic 1980s shit-fest is Blue Öyster Cult’s astonishingly misguided video for Shooting Shark (a pretty good song otherwise, IMO).
The incident between 3.00 and 3.15 takes some beating - not least as an ominous precursor to one of the less savory aspects the SDMB initiation ceremony.
**Jragon **already made a reference to this, but the video to Space Invaders by Hit ‘n’ Hide makes me laugh. What is with that hair (and the dancers’ costumes)? Super-high intelligence, indeed.
And on the subject of catchy Scandinavian music, I just got the album Gott Och Blandat by Caramell, the one before the one with Caramelldansen. I like Kom Och Ta Mig, Simsalbim, and Luftbalong, and Mr. Cowboy is stuck in my head. I think it’s a better album overall than Supergott. As ridiculous-looking as they were, though, they never made any music videos.
