Just that…let’s support, praise and share. I didn’t want to hijack the October thread.
I would like to get back down to what I was this time last year, before quitting smoking and allowing some major stress to “make” me eat. Who’s in?

Fifteen pounds (of real, not water, weight) in four weeks is asking a bit much, I would say, but I’ll sign up for 5 more pounds. I’m at 178 from 203 twelve weeks ago, and would like to get down to the low 170s. (5’11" male, 33 years old.)
That’s pretty ambitious. I might be able to do 7. Actually, I will have quit smoking by then, so I’ll settle for breaking even.
My start weight is 232.
I agree that 15lbs by Thanksgiving is a difficult task but I’m definitely in for losing weight. We started our own weight club at work and it’s really been helping so far. Having more support couldn’t hurt, right?
C’mon, I can do it! It’s actually 5 weeks from tomorrow. 3 elbees per week will be hard, but not impossible! Thanks for joining in though. I’ll be a lot more motivated if I’m checking in with other people. No need to post actual starting weights, just what’s coming off. Let’s post weight lost every Thursday morning.
I’m not saying it’s impossible at all–just that, from what I understand, for most people that much of a loss that quickly is not recommended.
Canadian Thanksgiving? No problem.
I will give it a stab. It would be a good kickstart for me.
They say that’s pretty unhealthy. 10 lbs might be both more realistic and healthier.
I’m already trying to shove off the excess pounds - not necessarily with a goal of 15 lbs. by Thanksgiving, but trying nonetheless. Doing Weight Watchers for the first time.
So…I’m with youse guys.
Sounds good. Especially since Thanksgiving in my neck of the woods was a week ago last Sunday.
[sub]You guys have Thanksgiving too close to Christmas. Ours was on a beautiful fall day with all the leaves turing colour. I had two Thanksgiving dinners on two successive weekends, last weekend and the one before. Kids. Family. Food. Was good. [/sub]
I am Officially In. I’ve been trying to lose 20 pounds for the last four years and having little success.
If I could lose 10 I’d be delirious with joy.
I really depends on what a person weighs to start off with too. I went to Weight Watchers just after my son was born 5 years ago, and lost 15# in two weeks. I was eating about 1800 calories a day too, and not starving at all. I didn’t exercise for the first few weeks either.
But then again, I have a lot to lose(more now). If you only weigh 15 or 20 over your target weight, then yes, that would be too much, and too fast.
Count me in! Maybe knowing I have to check in every week will help me be good. I think 15 lbs might be feasible for me…I’m pretty sure I’m carrying a nice amount of water weight so if I can lose that I’ll be well on my way.
Dropping Coke from my diet starting…Now!
Heh. What I was going to write. 5 weeks, 15 lbs? Sounds about right to me (said after finishing a slice of home-made apple pie with ice cream).
“elbees”?? Please tell me you don’t say it like that out loud.
FYI, losing 3 lbs a week means taking in **10,500 calories **less than you burn during that week. That’s a 1500 calorie per day deficit. For an average person who burns 2,000 calories a day, that means:
and
YOU MUST DO THIS EVERY SINGLE DAY.
Get realistic here people.
Yeah. I am in to lose a few lbs by thanksgiving. But I think 8 would be a more reasonable (and healthier) goal.
How are you doing your math there? That’s a 2500 calorie deficit right there. If you need 2000 calories a day to maintain weight, eating only 500 calories is a 1500 calorie deficit.
Wouldn’t that mean that if the average person burns only 2000 calories per day and the (I’ll call it “acceptable”) norm for a diet is 2,500 calorie per day diet everyone would be gaining weight at a rate of 500 calories a day? Feel free to blast me into next week with a laser for being wrong. . .
Oh, P.S. I’m totally in I need to kick this beer belly like a dead horse.
