At last I am awake, showered, dressed, and breakfasted! I awoke a bit before 2 in the AM for a nature call. When I lay back down, the furnace sounded particularly loud - probably because the house was so quiet. But it got me to thinking - what should we do if the furnace catches fire?
The furnace is right under our bedroom (technically under the closets, but still.) Our phones are in the living room. Our animals are out there somewhere, but the cat crate is in the green bedroom. Would it be possible to get up, grab some sort of garments, get the crate while preventing either cat from entering either bedroom, catch the cats and crate them, get Higgs out, and grab the laptop, my CPU, and the folder with all our important documents… oh yeah, and dial 9-1-1.
That’s what kept me from falling back to sleep. It was closing in on 3 when I dropped off again. Needless to say, when the alarm went off at 5:15, I was in no mood for that nonsense. I got up long enough to feed Higgs, then I crawled back in bed. Shortly after **FCD **left, I had Taz plastered to my left side and Higgs at my feet gnawing noisily on a bone. Somehow, I managed to doze till about 8. But it’s another overcast, cold, dreary day, and I’d rather still be in bed. Higgs never stopped with the bone and it woke me again.
I think I’ll make a run to the credit union today, and maybe I’ll get a haircut. Last night, I actually ran the dishwasher after supper, and the contents await dispersal to various and sundry cabinets. That’s as far as my thought process has gone.
Happy Last Wednesday in March!! Spring is a myth, tugig!!
Planning a fire escape is a good idea, though the very first thing is to go wild with smoke detectors. IF you have several strategically placed (I used to have them in my attic in my other houses - many fires start up there) then the chances of discovering and stopping a fire before it gets going increases dramatically.
For important files consider a fire safe. It can allow that stuff to ride out the fire without you having to grab it, and they aren’t expensive.
Is your home near a hydrant or are you dependent on tanker service? Are there any decent streams or bodies of water nearby (for fire truck drafting)? These are the critical questions that determine how long it takes for a ‘real’ fire to be put out.
Except our bedroom is the only room in the house that’s 2 stories up. The lot slopes - the whole front of the house is ground level, but the back corner away from the garage, not so much… So that won’t work.
We do have smoke detectors, and the furnace is fairly new and annually inspected and cleaned. But at 2AM, the brain goes weird places, even if you haven’t been drinking!!
Got up later than I intended today. In my defense, I was up rather late last night.
I have on a video of some lovely music played by a cellist and a pianist. Cello Dude used to live in Montreal. Dunno if he still does, he seems to tour a lot. He used to teach at McGill. He had an office on the 5th floor of the music building, and I had a locker nearby, so we were 5th-floor neighbours.
Well, I must try to go and accomplish something with this day that I have ahead of me.
Whaddaya need garments for, you clean nekkid, dontcha?
Backup the 'puter, either to the cloud (iffn you don’t mind paying for this every year & the *possibility of it being hacked) or, better yet, buy an external HDD & keep it offsite at work, a friend, or relative’s. In your case, your shed is separated from the house, right? Store it there & only bring it in to update it.
They’d get my financial data, but dirty {non-muddy} pix of me don’t exist. Dirty {muddy} ones exist, but they’re from racing, so I don’t care & I’m not famous enough that they’d go viral.
Actually not so happy.
I woke up at 3am in horrible pain, I don’t know what was wrong with my belly but it feels better now.
It hurt so bad I couldn’t go back to sleep, then I called my friend who irks nights - she had asked me to call if I woke up - then I logged in to irk. Now I’m waiting for the pizza to be delivered, eat some N.O.L., and take a nap.
I put a load of clothes in the dryer while I was up, and another load in the washer.
Then I realized I forgot to add detergent so I need to rewash them. So much for thinking I’d get something done in the middle of the night.
It’s cold and cloudy outside, I think it’s supposed to rain.
Joy and happiness there.
I’ve been to the credit union, the salon for a trim, WaWa for a fiil-up, and the dollar store just because it was across the street from WaWa! I finished the last of the pulled poke for lunch.
It’s still dreary and icky out. Wonder what’s on Netflix??
I’m studying for a full-charge bookkeeper certification at my local community college. The class the grade drama was about was the intro to Excel. Of the three questions I’d originally been marked down on, I really did botch two. In the third case, I’d gotten it right, just misnamed that sheet in my workbook, so he hadn’t looked at the right sheet. When I was able to locate the correct one for him, he graciously gave me full points for that question, which was the amount I needed to salvage the course grade.
Day off from irk today, slept in with my pals Allegra and Unisom (half tablet) for company. Was also eventually joined by DH and Princess Scissorpaws :).
I do have two classes today, but I have a couple of hours before I need to be on campus (takes a few minutes to find parking, then of course student parking seems to be at maximum distance from classrooms).
We’re gonna have chickie rice soup for supper. I’ve got the chickie simmering in broth right now. Shortly, I will add carrots and celery. Maybe green beans, too. Rice will go in last. As cold and icky as it is, soup is a good choice.
Howdy Y’all! I did indeed end up goin’ to the west forty. The waaaaaaaaay west forty as in a mile from the border with Alabamy. 'Twas a good trip though. I have a new person enrolled and a new host agency. A little boost to the old numbers!
spidey neutered matzoh parts. HEE!
Durin’ my travels today I went through <snerk> Dickey! <snerk> twice. I giggled all the way through both times. Ok, that was a grand total of a minute of gigglin’.
Dindin will be over to the church house for Agape soup ‘n sammich. I’m bringin’ some chardonnay tonight (yes we drink wine with meals) as I have a bottle on hand and someone bemoaned the lack of it last week. So, my good deed for the day is to make someone happy with a bottle of chardonnay.
They’re closing down a dollar store near where i live, so I went there and got some good deals. I also went to Target (they’re closing down all the Target stores in Canada, every single last one, so they have sales there too) but it was like a ghost town in there. Didn’t get anything. Too bad I didn’t get the Dr Pepper shirt I saw there.
Back from my bi-monthly [del]oil change[/del] doctor’s appointment.

Great. Now if only the arthritis and assorted other auto-immune related maladies would leave my body, I’d be happy.
