I can relate to that. At different times in my life I’ve had completely different approaches to cooking, depending on my energy level, busy-ness, family feeding obligations, and so on. There are dishes I used to make constantly that now I think, “really? I went through all that trouble?”
I think I might want to make the brown bread now, though…I might try to find my recipe anyway (or follow the one in the youtube video).
There used to be a chain of restaurants in the Bay Area, The Big Yellow Farmhouse. The front facades at least looked like one. Alas a quick Google search came up empty.
There is a chain of brew pubs here in Arizona, Uncle Bear’s, named after the founder’s dog that allows dogs outside. I don’t think they have a staff dog, though.
Hear, hear. I also want Fig Newtons, preferably washed down with some Swiss Miss hot chocolate or a similar beverage. I’ll take some of those Nabisco peanut butter wafers too, thank you. And though I don’t eat them myself, there are probably going to be cafe customers who would like some double-stuffed Oreos, Fudge Stripes, and Nilla Wafers.
Thanks! The Vermont Country Store catalog was in my trash can. I got it out and did not find B&M Brown Bread; tried their site on line and still did not find it. As a desperation try I searched for Brown Bread and sure enough Vermont Country Store has it. They do not list it as B&M but rather Brown Bread in a Can. But the text does say B&M. Odd, but ok then. 2 cans for $11.90. I’m ordering! Thanks again.
Tuna Melts with crinkle cut fries. And Deluxe Tuna Melts (Tuna Melt with tomatoes and lettuce). And let’s not forget the Tuna Melt Royale (a Deluxe Tuna Melt with 2 strips of bacon).
Grilled cheese with the customer’s choice of cheeses.
Tuna melt with extra sharp cheddar
Pumpkin pie
Ramen noodle omelet with added veggies (it’s a weird one, but warm, cheap, filling, kinda nutritious, and tasty)
Ham bean soup (the tomato kind and so thick it’s almost a stew) over toast and topped with a poached egg.
cream cheese on white bread with salted peanut pressed in till it couldn’t hold any more, and a second slice of bread with cream cheese smooshed on top.
fresh-from-the-garden tomato sliced on lightly toasted and mayonnaised white bread, with a little salt.
These days, I generally eat multi-grain bread, but those two sandwiches absolutely must have white.
