Catching up, I make sure I stop looking at the red-headed woman and quietly advise the others not to acknowledge her.
Since I seem to have some sense of Etiquette, I offer any suggestions I think of for dealing with tribal chiefs to Antinor.
Just before entering the tent I cheer the others up by remarking that I’m not afraid of death … I just don’t want to be there when it happens!
Got it!
The tribal chief does not come across as threatening in any way, but there is little doubt as to who is in charge here. And he does expect answers to his questions.
Oh, and NAF, still back in the tent: You are at a penalty right now, but you are strong enough to pray for your own healing.
“We are actually unclear on those points ourselves. After awaking in the cave I described to him, gestures at Koldanar we realized that we had been injured and for some reason didn’t know ourselves.”
“Strangely enough, I believe you.” (You do feel like you’ve presented a very convincing case.) “But what shall become of you? Are you an agent of Fana? How do I know you don’t threaten my people?”
“As your men can attest, the only weapons we carried we picked up off of the creatures they helped us defend ourselves against. We have nothing but the clothes on our backs and a few meager food supplies. I do not know who Fana is, so as to what being their agent would mean I cannot say.”
Then I will pray like I haven’t prayed before.
He mulls these words over and discusses their meaning with Koldanar. When he finally gets it, he lets out a huge belly laugh.
“What great skills do you have that we would let you stay? If you cannot help our tribe, then you should be sent back to your cave. Or maybe the Atani Kaldorish can help you.”
You pray. Very sincerely.
Larani is merciful, your injuries were not really all that bad to begin with. But in return for the gift of renewed health, there is something that you must do. The nature of it is unclear, but you know you must return to your home to do it.
So, to recap…
NAF, you are healed up.
The rest of you, you are being asked what you can offer the tribe. If it is nothing, what do you think they should do with you?
Hmm, if I am healed I should probably try to find the others. Before I do, I have some questions. Was I aware of them leaving me? Is there anyone with me now?
(I’ll confer with the others in the control thread for an action plan from here)
Yes to both questions. Some tribal women are nearby, seeing if you’re OK. You know the rest of the party is meeting with the chief.
While waiting for the others…
Do any of the names the chief mentioned mean anything to me?
While pondering his questions, do I recall anything else?
No, but some of the names are explained to you. Fana is a huge Gargun complex, containing thousands of the creatures. Atani Kalordish refers to a rather large kingdom to the south, Kaldor.
Ok, can I communicate with these women? (I might speak their language and we never got a chance to find out. Doesn’t hurt to ask) If I can’t speak to them directly, would it be possible to me to perform some form of sign language telling them I wish to meet up with my traveling companions?
You do not understand their language, and try as you might, you cannot communicate other than extremely simple concepts. To understand them, it would take – well, a miracle. A religious miracle.
Do I know a ritual that allows me to learn forign tounges? starts to dance and pray hoping to remember said ritual
Tongues/57, successfully ritualized. You have 10 minutes speaking in their language.
I mention to Antinor about my attending services of Lalani. He’s welcome to mention her name to the Chief if he sees fit.
(I look forward to any healing powers NAF can remember…)
