Maybe we should give him some of his disgusting food and try asking the questions again.
Except that the disgusting food is you.
It all makes sense now!
I don’t trust him for a second.
Is there a spell NAF remembers to see if he’s telling the truth?
Given his bad attitude, I think we’re justified in telling him that if he leads us to the river safely tomorrow, then we let him go.
Then we gag him and set watches.
How does that sound, everyone?
Sounds good to me.
Leeroooyyy Jenkinssssssssss!!!
Um, at least I got chicken?
Truthsense. Is there a factual, yes or no question being asked?
Good evening gentlemen,
I hope that the board is up and running with permanent posts, so that we may continue.
When last we saw our intrepid heros, they were questioning Ralph the Fowlspawn. NAF invoked both Tongues and Truthsense on the filthy critter in the hopes that it would lead you to water. Then and only then will you set it free. It mentioned a river, fairly far to the north. It has also mentioned some clearwater streams. One trickles off of some rocks, into a small pool. That’s a league or two to the south, off of the trail. The other is something something you’d have to wade through anyway, on your journey to Naniom Bridge. It’s on your way, and about 2 leagues from here.
Ralph favors the stream on the trail. It can be full of mule poop and human poop, just the sort of nutrients that a fowl creature loves to wallow in. Or maybe the water has already washed it all away.
Koldanar has drunk from the trail stream before, and found it to be potable as long as caravans haven’t passed within a day or two. He knows it well enough that he can find it without Ralph’s assistance.
Larani seems to be telling NAF that Ralph is being sincere. His prime motivation is food – flesh, human or otherwise.
Alright then. If he is being sincere and won’t try to eat us, I say we let him lead us to water and if he happens to find some non human food along the way he can have that too (as can we if we don’t find it…abhorant.)
What does everyone else think?
(BTW until the board gets up to speed I won’t be checking nearly as often, it took 5 minutes for this page to load.)
Sounds like a plan.
You sleep through the night, with appropriate watches on Ralph, and a promise that he will lead you to water.
Koldanar, you feel progressively worse as the night wears on. You’re drowsy and have chills. The area around your thigh where you were wounded is getting puffy and red.
glee, you have the same thing but on your head.
Poison?
I will do an additional prayer when I wake up. Do any of us know enough about first aid to help with poison?
It seems to be consistent with a type of invisible poison that lives in dirty things. It tends to work its way into open wounds. As mentioned previously, some believe it to be invisible fire demons. There are some physicians who believe that those demons can be driven away with strong drink, applied directly to the wound. But that’s on wounds that are still open. These wounds have healed over, so apparently the fire demons are trapped inside.
Other physicians believe that they aren’t demons, but really really really tiny animals, so small that they can’t be seen. Those physicians are considered delusional.
You do indeed remember a ritual that can kill the demons.
Does it involce moldering oranges, because if I can get us orange mold…or even cheese mold, I can probably get us some food. Maybe some chicken soup.
Infection sucks, particularly when it is in a head wound. I will help them out and fast.
One ritual every 12 hours for 14 days?
Just make sure you don’t stop the treatment until every ritual is used up!
Once per day should be plenty. Let’s do the first one right now.
It’s a miracle! The redness is abating. Larani be praised!
When you wake up, Ralph suggests that you continue on your path. It should take just a few hours to get to the stream.
As you walk, you see a strange sight. There’s a man standing on the side of the road. He’s quite large, facing away from you, and wielding a pickaxe. And he’s standing perfectly still. Koldanar recognizes it as Digger, a statue of a dwarf. No one seems to know how old it is, but it’s at least several hundred years old. It’s customary for travellers to touch it for good luck as they pass. Ralph tries to put as much distance between him and it as possible.
At long last you come to the stream. It’s about 10 feet wide and crosses the path, flowing downhill to your right. It’s about a foot deep and very cold and crystal clear.
touches Digger and drinks from the stream
The water is refreshing and tasty. Touching Digger makes you feel lucky.
You have five wineskins full of the chief’s firewater. While that won’t quench your thirst, it may be worth some money. Do you dump it out and fill your skins with water? Keep in mind that you also have five ornate wooden jars full of magic healing honey that also might be worth something.
Ralph has fulfilled his obligation to lead you to water. What becomes of him?
We promised to let him go, yeah?
Should we follow the stream?
Guess we should have asked Ralph where the -next- stream is, too.
You objective is to get to a town. The path leads to several.
ETA: If you load up on water here, you’ll have enough to get you to a town.
