Let's play a role-playing game

Yea I’m here. Work keeps getting in the way!

Jimmy, I’m just concerned that these people recognizing all of you, how do we know which ones really and truly are trustworthy? It may just be that ALL sides want to use amesiac nobles to play power games, yes? Isn’t that what all you castle dwellers do, manipulations and backstabbings? Well in general, present company excepted of course.

I vote to go with him.
He knows something about our situation, and at least we know his relationship to us.
Sooner or later our identities will leak out - we might as well be with this chap when that happens.

I totally agree. The question, though, is since we can’t trust anybody until we find out more, which person that we don’t trust do we go to first? I think that the practical thing to do is hit the closest city, which just so happens to be where NAF’s sister is, and which NAF just so happened to get a divine message that he ought to visit.

glee, a point well taken. Is it necessarily good that he knows us if he won’t tell us, though? And what about Santo?

To clarify a few points non-coversationally…

Thilisa doesn’t often visit Minarsis. She tends to stay put in Qualdris, so you’de have to go all the way there to see her. (Santo’s home is near there, too.)

Urian strongly suggests that you go to Minarsis, but you are free to go where you will. He’s going to Minarsis in any event.

Just to keep things straight, because I know it gets confusing, there are five Earldoms. They are, by Earl’s name, Earldom name, and castle name:

Curo - Neph - Gardiren
Caldeth - Vemion - Minarsis
Meleken - Osel - Qualdris
Dariune - Balim - Kiban
Elendsa/Harabor - Meselyne - Olokand

So, to Gardiren alone, or to Minarsis with Urian?

Well, I’m still in favor of Gardiren, and I guess we’re still split.

Anybody else have any thoughts?

I am in favor of getting Rugger help before it’s too late. I think that has to be priority #1 for our party. If he can make it to Minarsis then we can go, but I think we need to find out if that is even a possibilty for him before we can make the further decision.

What was the divine message?
If it’s clear, let’s follow that.

The divine message was to go home. That could be interpreted many ways.

Right, not that clear - “go home.” But the place where his sister is is the closest thing to a hit we have on that front, and presumably we can go from there.

(And let me tell you, NAF, I will be hitting on that front.)

You only say that because you haven’t met her yet. :stuck_out_tongue: Don’t say you weren’t warned.
Allright, given the information we have now, I think heading to Gardiren will be best in terms of reaching out short term goal of helping Rugger, as well as helping further a few of our long term goals (many of which are still very fuzzy).

I’m hoping for Gardiren if for no other reason than on what, penis or no, may ensue.

Shall we put the matter to a vote, or is more discussion needed? You can certainly try to get more information from Urian, of course, but you’d need to ask the right questions. He has volunteered all he is going to.

You do discover that he is the first among his crew. One guy is his herald, another his squire, and the others are a knight buddy and his squire.

Ask Urian what it is that he thinks we should be wary of with regard to Curo. What should we be on the lookout for if we can’t help but stop in Gardiren?

Also, ask if he will be stopping on the way to his destination so we can meet with him later. We have to stop in Gardiren, but would like to not lose contact with him.

For one thing, Curo is an atheist and a debauched libertine. All he thinks about is money, cheating on his wife, and food and drink. Anything for a profit. For another, he did not support the Elendsa clan during the succession crisis. He sided with Maldan Harabor, who now lives in a disputed territory.

As far as what to look out for, getting arrested is a definite risk. It may not matter if the charges are factual or not.

Minarsis is in the opposite direction, and the road is a long one.

He will, if you’re really nice, take you as far as Chalced Abbey. After that it will be a “we’ll see” situation. But he feels compelled to seek council from his father on the finding of Earl Sedris. He wants his father to know before anyone else does.

Do you mean us, or one of us specifically? I have a feeling you mean me. Why would it be to Curo’s benefit to imprison any of us? Because of the succession? Don’t leave anything out, now. Why should we fear arrest?

Any of you, but you more specifically. Your tale is strange and hints at witchcraft. The Kald Stalker could be anything, and could even be somehow tied to you. Some important men have gone missing over the years, and the political ramifications are staggering. Curo is ambitious and without scruples. And there is talk that he seeks to restore the House of Artane (of which he is a descendant, or so he claims) to the throne. His ties to Maldan are unsettling, as the two of them may be able to raise an army capable of unseating the queen.

You might become unwitting pawns in his dangerous game.

Fortunately, she who once shared his bed is far more enamored of Laranian principles. She’s a cold fish, but an honest one. She is the sister of the Serekela at Caleme, and that is indeed holy power.

Sorry, former Serekela. As he is missing and presumed dead, his former Obasaron, Symon of Rintaron*, is now the acting Serekela. The position has yet to be blessed by her holiness in Thay.

*The guy who wrote both the Minarsis and Gardiren modules GM’d a game in which I rolled up the character of Symon. I’m proud of that sneaky bastard. (The character, not the GM.)

Ah, another important man is missing, eh? Some kind of religious figure? Brother-in-(ex?)law to the earl, if I hear aright?
