Let's Play Music Artist vs Music Artist!

Joni or Judy?

Sorry.

Pass on above, since I don’t know either.

** Are the Fucking Eagles known as such ever since The Big Lebowski? **

Judy Collins.
Peter, Paul & Mary or the Mamas and the Papas?

Mamas & the Papas
John Denver vs. Neil Diamond?

John Denver. I like his voice better, plus bonus reason: his work with the Muppets.
Todd Rundgren or Adrian Belew?

I’ll pick Todd because I know him more and he can do just about everything in music. Fun guy.

The Zombies or Big Star?

I’m probably the only SDMB regular who’ll pick the Zombies.
Foreigner or Bryan Adams?

That’s a real, real, real close one for me. Our wedding first dance song was a Zombies song (“This Will Be Our Year.”) Odyssey and Oracle is my favorite album between the two bands, but Big Star has perhaps the perfect pop song in “September Gurls” and a more consistent (but shorter) output, so…yeah, I guess I would have ended up going for Big Star.

Foreigner.

My Bloody Valentine or Ride?

Ride (one of my favorite bands). I’ve never really liked the fuzzed out but amorphous dreaminess of MBV, and prefer the slightly more direct power and intensity of Ride (who just reformed!), even if both can fit underneath the broad shoegaze umm umbrella.

Enya or Loreena McKennitt?

Loreena McKennitt unless I’m suffering from insomnia.

Grateful Dead w/o Jerry or Jefferson Starship w/Mickey?

:evil grin:

I prefer Jefferson Starship with Mickey, Starship to be exact. Love the song “Sara” and Mickey sings the hell out of that song.
I also agree about Loreena MCkennitt though Enya is fine too. Very unique artist.
Justin Timberlake vs Usher?

Besides me.

When I picked these two, I tried to go for Band that should have been bigger.

My wife likes Timberlake and he’s kinda funny on SNL, so I’ll pick him. Don’t know Usher from an usher.

Johnny Cash or Patsy Cline? (no-win situation!)

That’s a terrible choice to have to make, but I gotta go with Johnny.

Dead Kennedys or Dead Milkmen?

Dead Kennedys

Similar vein, similar genre:

Rocket from the Tombs or Rocket from the Crypt?

Never heard of either, but to keep the thread from dying, let me state enthusiastically: Rocket from the Crypt rules!!!

Next: the Righteous Brothers or the Doobie Brothers?

Yeah, I was afraid I might kill the thread with that one, but there have been plenty of bands here I had never heard of, so I gave it a shot.

I’ll go with Righteous Brothers

Continuing to be a bit silly:

Van Halen or Van Morrison or Camper Van Beethoven?

Hehehe, these are much easier to decide. Camper Van Beethoven
Progeny face-off:
Hank Williams Jr. vs. Roseanne Cash?

I’ll say Rosanne Cash, just on the strength of her last album The River & the Thread, which was phenomenal.

Billy Bragg or Nick Cave?

Billy Bragg, but just barely.

Drive By Truckers, or Old 97s?

Gotta go for the hometown band, Old 97’s
Iron Maiden or Mötley Crüe?
