Iron Maiden. The Crue’s Shout at the Devil gave me a little pause, but it’s Maiden all the way here.
Men At Work or Men Without Hats?
Iron Maiden. The Crue’s Shout at the Devil gave me a little pause, but it’s Maiden all the way here.
Men At Work or Men Without Hats?
Men At Work.
John Williams vs. Jerry Goldsmith
I like Williams’ best stuff more than Goldsmith’s… but Goldsmith wins because he repeats himself far less and has shown far more range than Williams.
The Temptations or Smokey Robinson & the Miracles
astorian–those are excellent points and I agree 100%.
Picking up one that got skipped…
Adrian Belew. He works the prog without losing the rock, plus has a killer voice.
Garbage or No Doubt?
No Doubt up to the point when Gwen went out on her own, Garbage from then on.
Thomas Dolby or Talking Heads?
Talking Heads, without any hesitation. Dolby had some nice work, but, at a minimum, the first five Talking Heads albums were just about perfect.
Liz Phair or Tori Amos?
Moving this to Thread Games.
Since it was overlooked…
The Temptations or Smokey Robinson & the Miracles
Tough both had great vocals, Smokey Robinson but also Eddie Kendricks and David Ruffin. Hard to say, though Smokey is an underrated song writer .
I like songs from both, and their solo stuff.
I will give it to the Temptations, and also because Ruffin and Kendrick’s’ deaths were sad. And Berry Gordy is an a-hole and abused them. Smokey was a close friend of that snake.
So Temptations. And they were a better group than the Miracles who were Smokey and some back up guys.
Sting or Phil Collins?
Not a big fan of either, but I’d say Sting because he writes his own stuff. And my wife likes him.
The Guess Who vs. Bachman-Turner Overdrive
Guess Who all the way! That jazzy pop style is something I’ve always liked and Burton Cummings voice was amazing.
Black Keys or Black Crows?
Black Crowes, mainly because I’m not familiar with the other.
An eclectic one: Metallica vs. Elvis Presley.
Tori. Liz flamed out pretty hard after her initial peak, and even that was frankly overrated.
Elvis Presley
Diana Ross vs. Beyonce
Diana Ross is better singer and most of her songs are better. I like some of Bey’s hits also, though would not call myself a fan of either women.
Their careers mirror each other in many ways, both came from a three piece group and went on to successful solo careers.
I will give it narrowly to Ms. Ross.
Madonna or Cher?
Madonna. Cher was fine, lasted a long time, and won an Oscar for best actress, but Madonna’s ability to reinvent herself is why she still has albums at the top of the charts 30 years after she started.
Ringo Starr or George Harrison?
Ringo always seemed to be having more fun than George. Richard takes it.
Classics IV or Atlanta Rhythm Section
Atlanta Rhythm Section, mainly because they were more of my generation
Procol Harum or the Moody Blues?
