As to the OP, yes I’ve done it with several (same-sex) partners but only as the top. I have zero interest in experiencing it as a bottom.
As to why it’s sexy, it’s hard to describe. There’s just something incredibly intimate about having your hand inside someone. There has to be a lot of trust there because of the possibilities of injury and the like.
