The best pizza I ever bought was at Mineo’s in Pittsburgh.
Of course, I make my own from scratch at home. Crust, sauce, the works. NOTHING tops that!

Out of the chains, the only one I sincerely don’t like is Pizza Hut. The sauce is too sweet for me, I think.
Edited to Add: “Pizza Cunt”? Hm. Maybe I should give them a second chance…
Me too. Thankfully in the Twin Cities we have a couple of Godfather’s, and their wonderful Taco pizza.
It definitely sounds like the place. I seem to recall there being a small bar in the restaurant itself.
Actually, in the Twin Cities, you should be thankful for Punch Pizza. Best pizza outside of Italy. Accept no substitutes.
Thank! I’m that guy! Really interesting thread. I’m not a fan of frozen pizza, but that’s just me and my particular fascination with pizza. People’s preference in foods like pizza and BBQ are usually closely linked to what they ate when they were young.
My pizza yardstick is Pepe’s in New Haven, CT. Sorry, I know there are people who swear by Sally’s just a few doors down, but I will always be a Frank Pepe’s girl. Give me a sausage and mozzarella from that coal-fired oven, a big bottle of Foxon Park ginger ale or orange soda – I will be your slave forever.
I only get there every two or three years, and enjoy lots of pizza from local joints, Pizza Hut, and my freezer in the meantime. I enjoy them all, but my ultimate pizza experience at http://www.pepespizzeria.com/ trumps everything.
My preference is neither Pepe’s nor Sally’s (although both are excellent) but Modern Apizza on State Street.
Cool! And welcome to the Straight Dope. My dream is to one day have a wood-burning oven, but it’s impossible in the current house I live in. I’ve got a good wild starter I like that makes a good pizza dough, but I have no way of getting those types of temps. I’ve been semi-successful with the cast-iron trick (heat up a cast-iron pan for 10 minutes over the highest heat, place it upside down under the broiler, and stick your pizza atop), but it’s just damned hard to control.
The best pizza I have ever had was at Giordano’s in Chicago. It has ruined deep-dish pizza for me forever. Locals tell me that there is even better in Chicagoland. If that is true, then it must truly be orgasmic.
Actually, bad sex can be pretty horrible, but I’ve never had pizza I didn’t enjoy on some level.
