The gist of this thread seems to basically be: “Practicing Christians = hicks with bad taste.” Or “southern cracker types.” Who live in trailer parks, of course, and who get everything at Wal-Mart, as some have said.
Isn’t that a little bit…well…unkind?
Huge numbers of blacks as well as Asian immigrants like Koreans are church-going Christians, but nobody is joking that big buckets of fried chicken, 40 ounce bottles of beer and Phillie Blunts or bowls of Kimchee are going to be left over. Why is it that only “crackers” get these jokes directed at them and their deeply-held religious beliefs?
Oooh Ooh! Free Chic-fil-a while supplies last. . .
ETA: I sorta wish I’d read AT’s post before I sent that. Oh well.
Chick Fil A is owned and staffed by practicing Christians so I don’t really consider that a mean spirited jab, just an ironic statement based in fact. But this stuff about double-wides and other hick stereotypes just rub me the wrong way. It doesn’t outrage me, but I find it distasteful. There are very real class problems in this country.
Actually, if just the born-again types are taken, I suspect raiding their houses with special attention paid to locked trunks and cellars could yield a rather impressive supply of liquor, pain-medication, and kinky pornography.
I’ve got dibs on the Vatican!
