Let's talk Viagra!

Been using it for 4 or 5 years now. Generally takes about 30 minutes or so to take effect. Usually end up with minor headaches, blue tinted vision and stuffy nose for a few hours afterwards. Still worth it!

Are my experiences unique or common? Chime in if you’re “up for it!”

Interesting. So headaches are no barrier to the male when it comes to sex?

I took it for a while, about 15 years ago, when I was first being treated for diabetes, which was causing some functionality issues.

I experienced the “blue vision” the first time or two I took it, but otherwise, I never noticed any other negative side effects.

Only when it is her headache
[badumtschisssss]

Sounds like a few inconveniences but not insurmountable if you want to get laid. Being female, all I have to deal with is post meno dryness and tissue thinning as made worse by chemo.

How afraid [?] are you of one of the side effects that tell you to stop using it befire something bad happens [I know that there are a few side effects can become permanent and some are a warning to stop but I can’t remember offhand what they are]

Tried it some years ago, didn’t like the headaches. I have two small dormant aneurysms and apparently had a teensy stroke at some point, so I am not at all tempted to try that stuff again. It’s not easy for someone who had a very strong libido to give up sex entirely, but then the meds I take pretty much tamp it down anyway. :frowning:

I did not say this, you heard none of this from me.

“Someone” had tried other remedies with no success. So “Someone” went to Tijuana where just about anything is sold over the counter. (if you need a laugh, the little blue friends are sold INDIVIDUALLY) “Someone” purchased a few. They did work, but Mrs Someone got no benefit, because “Someone” gets classic migraines, and the little blue friend is a MAJOR vasodilator.

The topic is nevermore discussed.

~Nobody you know. Really.

A friend of mine said he was going on a date with Viagra. I asked him if she had a sister.

Cialis by name. I hear she likes romantic soaks in separate tubs.

Been using for years. Never had any negative side effects. I’ve heard of people getting headaches, blue lights and other effects, but haven’t experienced them.

Wife loves the “positive” effects of my taking it, but I don’t have to use it every time. Works every time I do take it, though.

If one’s “performance” isn’t what it used to be, I’d strongly suggest giving it a try.

Doesn’t work at all for me, just makes me feel somewhat clammy, along with a mild headache.

I have tried not Viagara, but a similar drug.

1.) It’s ridiculously expensive. even if you consider the alternative

2.) Yes, it seems to require about half an hour to take effect

3.) I can’t say I’ve felt any ill effects afterwards – no headache or stuffy nose.

4.) I’m not sure if I need it or if it simply provides a semi-placebo effect against performance anxiety. I have referred to it as “my magic feather” after the plot device in Dumbo. Because I’ve gotten along fine without it several times since trying it. Which is good for several reasons, including #1 above.

Generic sildeanfil (Viagra) started becoming available last year, and really drove the price down. Figure on the order of $1 a use now. So price is no longer a barrier.

I do get the mild headaches, but that’s about it. I don’t always take it, but when I do it’s very effective.

I assume you talked to a doctor about these? IIRC, blue tinted vision was not a desired outcome.

Just to clarify, “Someone’s” headache was not “mild.” I’m talking Super Migraine, complete with red cape and red boots.

It took a long time to clean the splattered brains off the ceiling. THAT kind of headache.
~I’m still nobody you know

So I’m going to ask some really dumb questions…bear with me.

I’m not really sure how Viagra works. When you say you have to wait a 1/2 hour for it to take effect, what does that mean? Does the Viagra give you an erection in a 1/2 hour or does it allow/help you to get an erection during foreplay like you normally would?

The latter. It’s not supposed to generate an erection in and of itself; the effect of the drug is to increase the possibilty for a guy to get and maintain an erection, given the usual stimulus (i.e., physical stimulation, watching naughty videos, etc.)

It typically takes 30 to 60 minutes for the drug to start doing its thing, which means that, if you have difficulty getting an erection without the drug, you’re probably still going to have a problem getting an erection five minutes after you take a Viagra.

Parenthetical: my now-retired endocrinologist called Viagra the “Disneyland Pill” – as he said, “you wait for 60 minutes for a 2-minute ride.”

That’s what I thought but wasn’t sure. Thanks!

Don’t know why he woud call it a "2 minute ride’. A Viagra enhanced erection can last easily half an hour or more. If fact, its effect can still be felt this next morning if your SO is ready for a second round. Now if you “explode” after only 2 minutes, the erection will subside and your ride will be over, but the chemical is still in your blood stream ready to help you get another round of sex in if you wait a little while.

There’s also Levitra, although it isn’t used as much as the others.

Did y’all know that the launch of Cialis was delayed when some people with the surname Cialis found out about this, and sued the drug company (unsuccessfully) to have the name changed, even by one letter?

The “blue vision” side effect is not because the tablet is blue, but because it acts on the retina and dampens its ability to detect yellow. (Some drugs do the reverse.) It’s nothing to worry about if it goes away, but if it doesn’t, it can indicate other issues and probably should not be used.

It’s been 20 years, literally, since it was launched, and it’s just as controversial now as it was then.

Nobody’s mentioned their dosage? I find even one-third of a 100mg pill gives excellent effect, so this works out to only three doses per dollar if pills are a dollar each! (More, obviously, if Pfizer is still charging $50 a trick in your country.) If you can tolerate any minor side effects I’d recommend it even for those with only mild “dysfunction.”

However, some advise that heart disease be a contraindication, especially since Viagra interacts fatally with nitroglycerine (and similar remedies) widely touted for cardiac ischemia, cf. the Jack Nicholson movie.
