Let's talk Videogames!

Hmmm. Looks like a good option. Bummed that it’s still at $59.99 downloaded but 29 bucks at Best Buy.

Ah, I assumed that you were renting. Redbox or local video store (if you still have one by you).

It’s a genre that I generally don’t care for – console-style 3D platformer. A few games have made me bother with this, including the non-driving parts of Simpsons: Hit and Run and Psychonauts. In addition to the fun parts, you have all these stupid jumping puzzles if you want to collect all the crap, and it almost makes me want to be the kind of console-tard who loves that shit because it’s so steeped in it’s oblique and weird humor.

The game is a touchstone for a certain kind of gamer which you may not count yourself among, but you’ll at least have an inkling what the hell they’re talking about. It’s the video game equivalent of a Daniel Pinkwater novel.

I’m about to start playing Transformers: Devastation, which seems to have slipped under everyone’s radar. I don’t really have any big nostalgia for Transformers, I’m a bit too young for their G1 heyday. I had a few toys and watched Beast Wars and a little bit of Armada, but they’re not a big franchise for me.

That said, it’s a character action game from Platinum, so it’s probably great, with Korra being the only real exception. Everyone I’ve talked to that’s played it says that while it’s not quite as great as Wonderful 101 or Bayonetta, it’s definitely a quality game unlike Korra.

I should also probably finish The Phantom Pain some day. It’s taking me forever because I’m extremely good at getting distracted and taking over bases because it seemed like a fun thing to do.

Too old for Redbox it seems. No matter, I’m intrigued. I’ll buzz over to Best Buy I think.

I meant more that the graphics remind me of Jak and Daxter. I’m sure the plot is completely different. I asked around and one of my friends has it, so I’m going to borrow it from them. Thanks!

I just heard about Mass Effect: Andromeda yesterday and can barely contain my excitement. It’s going to be incredible.

Yess. I did the same thing! She should have a standalone game, in my opinion. But I’m biased.

Hmmm. Well those are all excellent games, so maybe it’s the gaming? I occasionally go through periods of time where I just don’t feel like gaming, so I do another hobby for a while.

Yup.

Intel Core i5-6600K
16 GB RAM DDR4
Radeon R9 390

I presume you had 8GB of DDR3 before? How much difference do you notice? In what situations have you gone over 8GB of RAM?

How are you finding it?

I haven’t played anything really graphically intensive yet. But the games I do play look glorious in 1440P, 25" monitor. Even HOTS looks a lot better. Although, it has caused me to change the way I play.

I’m pretty positive that the 16GB is overkill. I think the Battlefront recommended specs call for it. But I’m loving how fast everything is now. I have literally no complaints whatsoever with my build.

I’ll second this only in that I remember hearing a lot of good press about Wolfenstein and that it was better than people assumed it would be

The main reason I haven’t checked out Mad Max yet is because I was told it’s pretty much just about you blowing up camps and working on your car. I’m pretty plot driven. What did you think in terms of the storyline?

There’s extremely minimal story. I probably don’t need to [spoiler] it but I will anyways:

At the very beginning of the game Max’s car gets taken and the entire game is about getting a newer, better car. There’s a little bit more to it, at times, regarding some people you have to work with, but that’s pretty much it.

Playing now… Elder Scrolls Online with Dangerosa, for our co-op fun. Also some solo time. Starting another Pillars of Eternity run, since my last save got lost (or rather, is on the wrong platform). Working on Shadowrun: Hong Kong, but not enchanted with it. Waiting for the Director’s Cut to re-start Wasteland 2. Put a few hours in to Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, but it’s not grabbing me the way that Borderlands and BL2 did.

Divinity: Original Sin is on hold - got distracted and sort of lost my place. I’m either going to need to figure out what I’m doing or re-start. Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor is also on hold, but I’ve been wanting a fix of AC2, and Shadow might scratch that for me.

Looking forward to Fallout 4, thinking about a New Vegas or 3 replay.

And wishing that I could find the time for all of this. Sigh.

The story is pretty much an excuse for the action. Provided you enjoy harpooning the wheels off cars, piledriving War Boys and tearing down sniper towers, it’s all good. But if you’re looking for a plot-oriented game, this won’t be it. The basic story is that you’re tying to build car to take you across the Plains of Silence and most of the missions are essentially fetch quests leading you to new car components. But if the game play doesn’t grab you then there won’t be much else it can offer.

Ah. Alright…

Unfortunate.
Well, thanks for the input. I like explosions and fast-paced games, but not really into car games.

Haha I feel your pain.

Decided to finally check out The Evil Within. I bought it before work today. I’m going to play some of it tomorrow. Should be wonderfully terrifying!

Started playing Ark: Survival Evolved this weekend. I had played Rust a year or so ago but this game differs a good bit. Not only just “It has dinosaurs” but the dinosaurs make for a real environmental hazard. In Rust, it was nearly impossible to die from the environment once you got some pants on and a stone axe in hand. In Ark, well… all things are fleeting. I was proud as hell of my Parasaurolophus mount, until it was eaten by a crocodile. And the next one was stung to death by jungle bugs. And the one after that devoured by (mega)piranha after I attempted an unwise nighttime river fording. All that’s without worrying about hostile players yet. On the plus side, resources are very plentiful and it’s not THAT hard to bounce back when you lose your gear. It certainly feels like a more well rounded game than Rust where the only thing there was to do was loot radioactive crates and kill people to steal their pants.

Picked this up Saturday. So far so good; it’s exactly what I was looking for. Thanks!

Awesome. Like I said, I thought I was recommending a rental so I’m glad I didn’t convince you to spend real money on a lousy game.

There’s a follow-up prequel, Wolfenstein: The Old Blood, which is also good if you enjoy the shooting in The New Order. Not much story to it (not as much as TNO anyway) – it’s essentially a stand alone DLC distilled down to around six hours of shootin’ Nazis.

This game looks like everything I wanted rust to be. Is there single-player or co-op content? I don’t necessarily want to jump into a multi-player environment where I’ll be forced to dance asked at gunpoint, but if there’s interesting solo play, or a way to only invite friends, I’ll pick it up!
