LGBT: my nephew ... how cool is this?

In 2001, my sister gave birth to her second child, a girl she named Natalie.

In 2013, at 12 years old, Nat came out as a lesbian.

In 2015, Nat became Luke, identifying as male.

So my 15-year-old niece is now my nephew.

Let me remind you that we all live here in a little agricultural town, in the heart of the Trump part of Washington state.

My sister went to the principal of the high school, explained the situation, and informed him that Luke was going to discreetly use the boy’s bathroom. And the principal was fully on board.

And, regardless of how we “old folks” see the kids today, Luke’s classmates apparently have no problem with this. Heh. “Kids today” are awesome  Natalie the girl announced she is now Luke the boy, and all the other kids shrugged and said, “okay”.

I have renewed faith in the world.

That is indeed cool. Is he the first openly trans student at his school, do you know? I’ll be slightly more impressed with the principal if this is their first rodeo.

Totally cool - even to this “old folk.” My mother had a cousin who transitioned to male, way back in the '50s. He had a horrible time throughout his life, shunned by most of the family. So happy that times have changed for so many of us.

I don’t know for sure that Luke is the first, but I haven’t heard of another.

Now I really wish I could get back in contact with a M->F trans woman, my age, I met a couple years ago. She dropped all social contact while going through some legal troubles regarding her transition. (she was prepping for the final surgical stuff).

He still an androphile? IOW, does he consider himself a straight male now?

Cooler than one of my nephews protesting his school’s banning of backpacks by carrying a purse.

I’m glad it’s working out so well!
