Liberals' New Year's Resolutions

  1. Get Donald Trump Re-elected.

WOW that was easy!

 Are you sure you’ve got the right link? Because that link is just a short MTV News Twitter account video of suggested “New Year’s resolutions for white guys in 2017”, suggested mostly by people who aren’t white guys. Standard stuff like “stop thinking that having black friends means you can’t be racist” and “stop thinking that Black Lives Matter is the opposite of All Lives Matter”, etc.

Are you trying to tell us that white guys in general are so massively oversensitive that even such a trivial and lighthearted attempt to increase awareness of white male privilege is going to send them off in such a tremendous hissy huff that they’ll insist on re-electing President Trump four years down the road as an attempt at retaliation for it?
:dubious: Gee, what fragile little special snowflakes you’re making white guys out to be.

I think for 2018 MTV has plans to have white Christians do a “Dear Muslims” edition where they suggest that trucks don’t always make better suicide weapons than the old-fashioned shrapnel body explosive.

Oh wait, that’s an offensive generalization. Good thing they aren’t white males.

/yawn

You people are better debaters then I am… but I can’t stand this PC stuff.

So I’ll leave it at that.

You could have just put this bullshit as the OP, and called it a day.

It just seems condescending as fuck to me… Which is basically what people use the word “Mansplainig” for when a man does it. We all have agency. What about the blacks, and the women, and the Hispanics and Latinos who voted Trump? Where’s their PSA?

This is creating a lot of backlash, and people are sick of it.

People are sick of Lena “I wish I had an abortion” Dunham too.

It falls on deaf ears.

I feel rather unsympathetic to someone whose response to being called a stupid racist prick is to decide to act like a stupid racist prick, “just to show them!

Singling out white people as if they share a hive mind is indeed racist.

Good thing I didn’t do that, but I feel no surprise that this was your instinctive response.

I’m reminded of the SNL skit with the High School Improve group. Saaaaaaad!

I resolve not to take the bait of half-witted racist douchebags.

I’m not saying it can’t come across as condescending. I’m just saying that the OP’s insinuation that white guys’ egos are so pathetically fragile that they can’t even stomach a little PC condescension without throwing a massive retaliatory Trump-reelecting tantrum four years from now is far more insulting to white guys than anything in the linked video.

:dubious: Did you actually watch the linked video? There was nothing in it specifically about voting for Trump. The closest it got was critiquing Trump’s MAGA slogan (with no mention of Trump himself) by pointing out that America didn’t used to be that Great for Americans who weren’t white guys.

That said, the demographic fact is that white guys voted for Trump by far larger margins than blacks or women or Hispanics etc. If you did want to call out Trump voting as a behavior pattern, white guys are far and away the most likely to commit it.

 I’m not seeing why anybody, except perhaps the incredibly fragile snowflakes that I thought existed only in the OP’s imagination, would be “sick” to “backlash” point on account of a few light critiques of some attitudes evinced by some members of what is still by far the most privileged group in our society.

I mean, for example, white commenters have been tut-tutting at black people for decades about wearing saggy pants or using the n-word among themselves or glamorizing crime figures or whatever. And they similarly tut-tut at Latinos about not speaking English or playing mariachi music too loud or putting up ugly lawn shrines or whatever.

Why should white guys be the only ones entitled to an exemption from occasional somewhat patronizing and annoying advice about things some of them do that many other people don’t like?

I never even heard of this incident until you mentioned it, but on looking it up, I think you may be misinterpreting what Dunham said:

In other words, Dunham isn’t saying that she wishes she’d had an abortion for some sort of imaginary “cool points”. Rather, she’s explicitly rejecting the (very common) attitude of supporting abortion rights while still feeling secretly superior about never having had an abortion oneself.

Dunham’s position is merely that if you have a right to have an abortion then it’s okay to have an abortion. If you believe it’s okay to have an abortion then you shouldn’t boast or feel superior about not having had an abortion, not even subtly.

Indeed, if it was directed at all white guys. As it is, I expect some white guys are pathetically fragile and will react with tantrums.

Heck, a Trump tweet on the subject is not out of the question.

Apropos of which, I find it amusing that this OP was posted shortly after a concurrent Pit thread entitled “Some old white women”, containing the following remarks in the OP:

There’s some mild grumbling and eye-rolling in that thread about the OP’s blatant sexism and ageism (and racism), but overall everybody just takes it in stride that someone deliberately created a venue solely dedicated to complaining quite harshly about some negative things that some people do who are old, white and female.
Contrast that with the reaction of this thread’s OP upon encountering a far milder and gentler critique of some negative things that some people do who are white and male. Into the Pit he rushes, to point and howl at the critiquers and declare OH YOU MEAN NASTY LIBERALS, IF YOU SAY SUCH TERRIBLE THINGS ABOUT US WHITE MALES THEN WE’RE GONNA RE-ELECT TRUMP!!

I’m sorry Kimstu.

I do agree with you that I hear white people say shit I would never say. And I would fight for one’s right to say whatever they want.

I thank you for not getting defensive with what I said. And appreciate your attitude.

I just - I voted for Hillary… I think Obama did well overall. I doubt the message wasn’t geared towards Trump voters, but I could be wrong. I’m sick to death of categorization though… Why can’t you be Kimstu, and I be MyFootsZZZ?

I have to be categorized by my being a cis white male, but there’s so much more to me.

I’m sick of the fighting all together though. I just want everyone to live in a fair world…

And that way, we could all get along. Things aren’t fair though. I know. I just can’t stand the SJW’s AND the right wing trolls.

Dunham imho trivialized something that’s very emotional for some… Imho.

Ah MTV. The same network that exploit pregnant teenagers and juiced up guidos, decides to lecture people on bigotry. Gotta love it.

I’m sorry for the lousy reply… I will reread your post in the morning.

The kind of people who voted for Trump and the Republicans are highly unlikely to watch MTV, much less be insulted by anything it says. They’re too busy watching Fox or Breitbart talk about liberals being traitors and Satanic pedophiles.

And sucking up to scum like Trump voters never works for the liberals.

YouTube basically categorize “SJW Fails”, so, at least the young ones are exposed to that. It’s quite prevalent.

Edit:

Not saying condensed “fails” is a good way to look at I objectively.
