Liberals - what do you think of Nancy Pelosi?

I think she’s wonderful. A great liberal and a tough lady. Unlike Boehner and Ryan, she knew how to handle the job of Speaker.

Millionaire only (I know, so blasé). Paul Pelosi is a real estate investor.

I generally agree with her. She’s certainly not a riveting public speaker, but that’s not a common trait in House leaders of either party. She is an effective leader and is smart enough to let members of her caucus off the hook on difficult votes once she has her majority.

Not a fan of Pelosi, Schumer, Perez, or most of the Dem establishment. On their watch the party has imploded and their stock and trade is triangulating beltway logic and finding ways to undercut progressives. Compared to the opposition they’re saints, but that’s damning with faint praise.

That would be great, if there were younger members with the skill set, talent, and drive, to do the old style political wrangling. If they’re out there, we aren’t hearing about them much.

Not to go on too much of a tangent, but when the GOP anointed Paul Ryan as Speaker, it seems to me it was based on his history as the VP candidate, and not on any special talent he had displayed as a party wrangler. The results?

I generally agree with her… until I hear her speak. Then, all I hear is a typical politician. I guess that’s to be expected these days, considering her longevity, but I still find it unsettling rather than inspiring.

Actually, the Republican party, not so long ago, moved several yards to the right, and they kicked out the moderate Republicans, calling them Republicans In Name Only, or RINOs.

Even Richard Lugar, a conservative to the core, got “primaried.” The far right sponsored the GOP candidate who beat him in the primary. The NRA got involved in smearing Lugar, though he had never voted for anything anti-gun. The replacement said something spectacularly stupid before the general election, and he lost to the Democrat.

When I was younger, an “extreme left winger” was a Communist. Today, the Communist Party USA numbers less than 400 members. In short, there is no extreme left; the tag is meaningless.

She’s an extreme left-winger in the sense that Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama are extreme left-wingers, which is to say she’s not. She’s a mildly liberal centrist.

She seems to be a skilled administrator. I have a bit of a negative view of her personality, which I suspect is mostly down to constantly hearing the GOP complain about her and probably unmerited. I do remember seeing her on Colbert a few years back talking about the STOCK Act and she came over as less than genuine.

I would like to thank her for her many years of service and to ask her to retire to make way for someone younger and more inspirational. And please take Chuck with you.

I’m somewhere in the middle politically, and, this is somewhat close to how I think of Pelosi. Typical Politician, good at being a Politician, specifically a Congress Critter variety of Politician. I’m glad she’s not MY Politician.

I don’t have a well formed opinion of her other than “well, she’s on my side, she’s probably pretty good.” But, a story:

In 2010 I spent several days campaigning in Philadelphia for US senate and gubernatorial candidates. One of my fellow canvassers asked whether it would be okay to bring up Obama and Biden in conversations with the voters we talked to, most of whom had already been identified as leaning to our guys. The organizer beamed. “Oh absolutely!” she said. “Excellent selling points.” Then she gave a little grimace and said, “but you might not want to mention Nancy Pelosi or Harry Reid…”

Are the congressional caucus leaders ever inspirational? It doesn’t seem like a job that’s well-suited for that kind of politician.
