I believe that one thing made clear from yesterday’s results in Georgia and South Carolina is that Nancy Pelosi and her cronies in the House (and Senate?) must go, if the Democratic Party is to re-take the House. She is seen as the embodiment of everything “evil” about Democratic politics by too much of America. Frankly, she does little to help herself in that regard, as she is one of the most hyperbolic politicians in Washington, D.C. (especially now that Harry Reid is gone).
So, who should replace her as Speaker of the House? Who else should be part of the leadership team? Should Sen. Schumer (D - NY) be ousted from HIS position in the Senate, and, if so, who should replace him?
New guy here, but seeing how the democrats are out of touch with reality and don’t give a squat about their constituents, and they have no one to replace here with, leave her be. She makes plenty of stupid for the rest of America to see come election time.
Nancy Pelosi? Chuck Schumer? I receive emails every day from both Republican party and non-Republican conservative causes that continue to warn me about the evils of Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton.
How do I get on the list of people who want to warn me about Democrats and/or liberals who are actually part of the government?
I am one of Nancy Pelosi’s constituents, and I am very happy with her. In fact, most of her constituents are. She received 78% of the vote in the primary and 80% in the general election.
Voters in Georgia and South Carolina are not her constituents.
If she is Minority Leader in the House, they arguably are. If she is Speaker, they most certainly are. However, if you think SF is a good proxy for the average House district in the US, keep NP on. She’ll be a winning asset for the party.
You’re absolutely correct! However nobody has yet convinced me that B is bad (seriously, there aren’t even arguments here), and I’m getting pretty tired of the blatant raging hypocrisy of people who attack the other house while adamantly refusing to look to their own.
What makes you think the OP is a Republican? One problem with this MB is that, too often, anyone who criticizes Democrats is automatically assumed to be “not one of us”.
I personally think Pelosi has done OK for the Democrats over the years, but her time has come and gone. Time to step aside and let some younger, newer faces represent the Democrats.
Because of his posting history. (and the word “cronies.”)
But I agree. Pelosi has been okay, but her time has passed. (I felt the same way about Harry Reid). She may be a wiz in the House back rooms, but as the public face of the Democratic House, she fails to inspire or motivate.
I got the idea that they were a republican because their argument for removal was “She is seen as the embodiment of everything “evil” about Democratic politics by too much of America.” Personally I don’t think there are too many Democrats who worry about that sort of thing, because “too much of America” thinks that the D next to her name alone would be sufficient crime to merit the pillory. It’s basically a non-complaint.
Heck, even your vague, “her time is gone” argument is better than that. And, no offense, it’s not really that good.
Party leaders rise from their ability to raise and strategically disperse election funding to various districts, and to secure government spending for various special interests. Until someone tops Pelosi in her ability to do this, she will remain a leader.
Well, try living in SC-5, where I got plenty of mail over the last week reminding me that it was VITAL to keep Pelosi, Obama, et alia from gaining any power by electing the Democrat with his “liberal” ideas. Seriously, she was the lead Democrat named (probably because, you know, she’s the only one left in office).
And, yet, the result in SC - 5 was quite possibly made more likely because of appeals to local voters to keep her from gaining more power. The leader of the House Democrats is always going to have to pay attention to more than the politics of his/her local district.
Uh, you do realize that voters in places like SC - 5 are far more representative of the American electorate as a whole than voters in Nancy Pelosi’s home district, right? I mean, there’s a reason that the House and Senate (and most governorships, as well as most state legislatures) are controlled by Republicans, right?
Thank-you, John Mace. People make that assumption about me all the time. It’s funny how, on FB, almost all of my friends think I’m liberal as hell by contrast. :smack:
Seriously, those of you who are “liberal” here, do you really not read the mailings the Republican Party sends out in districts where they are competitive (or controlling)? I get a lot of them because I do vote from time to time in Republican primaries here (it’s the only chance to influence the eventual winner I have, since South Carolina Democrats are essentially powerless in most of the state). Nancy Pelosi has been one of their favorite punching bags ever since she became the leader of the House Democrats, and ESPECIALLY after she became Speaker for those fateful two years. I do not ever remember that level of animosity leveled at Dick Gephardt.
I delete/throw away spam, from either party, because it’s spam. So no, I don’t read that. (Also I get very little of it - I live in Idaho, where Republicans are “controlling” so hard they don’t need to lift a finger.)
And telling me that republicans hate Pelosi, or any democrat, just tells me that the democrat is probably doing their job. If there’s additional animosity now I’d casually and dismissively attribute it to the fact that republicans as a whole (not necessarily you) were driven out of their goddamn minds when a black man was elected president and have yet to recover.
Honestly, the most concerning thing I see in this thread so far is that Bricker likes her. He doesn’t strike me as somebody with liberal interests at the forefront of his motivations.
Given the utter lack of connection to reality the Republican Party in general has shown the last decade or so, I have absolutely no fucks to give which of our politicians they don’t like.
