Licking Cigs?

Saw my brother recently licking (along one edge) his cigarette before smoking it. He claims it burns slower. Any truth to this??

Slower or faster, it still doesn’t increase the amount of nicotine in the cigarette. Tell him he’s an idiot. And he needs to smoke his cigarette faster.

I don’t know if it makes it burn slower. I doubt it. My boyfriend licks his cig so that it doesn’t stick to his mouth (if you’ve ever smoked, you’ve probably had it stuck to your lip at least once). He also smokes his really fast, so if I try to share, his smoke is always wet and really hot. I don’t like it that way. I prefer to save wet and hot for other activities.

yeah, sundaes. mmmmm.

wet nuts and hot fudge.
sound dirty no matter which Olde Dairie Queene ye decide to frequent.

Lola-

Wet and hot works for me and if you’d like it a little slower I could accomodate you there too…

I saw the ciglicking about 15 years ago; some lady my dad worked with kept doing it. But she wouldn’t lick just one side, she stuck the whole thing (tobacco end first) into her mouth about a third of the way, twirled it around until it was well soaked, and lit it. I figured that it was a European thing (she’s from the country formerly known as Yugoslavia), and started doing it myself.

Makes no difference in the smoke. So I stopped.

I’ve never seen this with cigarettes, but I seem to recall it being done to marijuana cigs. My husband won’t smoke after me because I lick the end of the filter as I put it in my mouth to light it. I don’t know why, but it does filter more if it’s damp. Weird, I know.

I think there is a different reason for that. Many brands of rolling papers simply don’t have enough sticky stuff on them. Half the time, you end up with a joint that’s peeling apart. You lick it to try to get the paper to stick. That’s been my experience, anyway.

that could very well be a European thing. i recently got back from visiting a friend in Estonia. They make joints from emptied out cigarettes and they stick the whole thing in their mouths and completely soak it, he said it was so it would burn slower and it seemed like it did. i havent seen anyone do it to a cigarette since the days when we used to sit out in the woods sneaking smokes though.

I’m pretty sure that as far as commercially made cigs. go, a little wetness doesn’t change the burn time. The center of the “cherry” on a cig. is burning at approx. 1,000 degrees F. (depending on brand, altitude, light or reg., etc…). Sounds hotter than it should be, but try pinching one some time and see how badly you get burned.

I was out having a smoke a few hours ago and a large raindrop landed directly on the side of my cigarette, soaking it really well. No problem, the thing dries quickly with the amount of heat generated by the cherry.

I do however, moisten up the end of the butt that goes in my mouth. As others have said in this thread, the paper on the butt can stick to your lips, and anyone who’s smoked long enough knows how bad that sucks. You end up with one of two things happening. One, you try taking the cigarette away from your mouth, and your fingers slide out to the end of it… OUCH!!! Or two, you actually rip a tiny piece of skin off of your lip… ALSO OUCH!!!

you sure its 1000 degrees? im not saying you’re definately wrong, you could be right, but several years ago when one of my good friends was going through his “hardcore” stage he was a heavy smoker and he put out of single cigarette by pinching it or putting it out on his hand, arm, leg, tongue and <insert body part here>. he never once got burned. i dont think any of them even left a mark.

I was just sure this was going to be about Bill and Monica.
