Life is good, or: the Long Wait is over. :)

That’s right, boys and girls. Even though Heloise and I have been married since February 29 of this year, we haven’t been living together as such. Apart from a one week mini-honeymoon and a week’s holiday in early July, we didn’t see each other at all.

But all of that is about to change.

On August 27th at 8.15 AM, the lovely and gorgeous mrs. Coldfire will be landing at Schiphol airport. And this time, it’s not for a holiday - it’s for good.

Needless to say, I’m quite thrilled that it’s finally all coming together. We’ve both been flying back and forth for almost 3 years now, and while it has been difficult at times, we made it work somehow. We’ve had our fair share of adversity (mostly her recent auto accident, from which she still hasn’t recovered fully, although we have good hopes that she will eventually), but somehow managed to work through it all.

So, 16 more days to make more room in my apartment for all her clothes and stuff. 16 more nights without her.

And then, no more lonely nights. Ever.

Congratulations to the both of you!

I’m glad that you put a smiley after that last sentence, though, as it lends itself for multiple interpretations.

You gonna have a holiday to celebrate? And is Heloise looking for employment or already employed? This means we have another Dutch doper, doesn’t it?

Here’s to your future happiness Coldfire and Heloise. May all your troubles be small.

Cheers, OAOW!

Tusculan: she’s not employed yet. The procedure for her residency permit starts upon arrival, and takes about 4 to 5 months. Her work permit is linked to her residency permit, so she can’t work until her status is changed. During these first few months, she’ll probably spend a lot of time studying our strange language. She’s a very quick learner in all languages, and shows a lot of talent in pronunciation, even though a lot of Dutch sounds are very unnatural to Anglo speakers. I think she’ll do fine.

Awesome. If you’re half as happy with your wife’s companionship as I am with mine, you’re gonna be a grinning fool!

Though the thought of not seeing my wife consistently for years is too much to ask for. You 2 must have a very special bond. Cheers!

All the best to you both. Keep us posted on how it goes, some of us might learn something from you

What happy news! I can’t even imagine being so far apart–it was bad enough when UncleBill and I were dating, and we were only a few hours apart by air and were able to see each other every couple weeks or so. My very best to you, Coldfire and Heloise.

Yaaaaaay!!!

I would just like to say that I love that you got married on February 29. It’s gonna save you a bundle in anniversary gifts, because you’ll only have to buy 'em every four years . . .

I personally think this is the new wave in marriage–first get married, then wait a few months, then move in together Skip and I married in June but didn’t shack up until October).

Congrats, you two! Somehow, though, knowing that our continent is now bereft of Heloise will make us all feel a little empty inside. :frowning:

Woops–forgot half of my parentheses . . .
:smack:

Yeah, I guess it’s fair to say that the average cuteness of people in the Netherlands will jump up dramatically in 3 weeks time, whereas the average cuteness of people in the States will suffer a gigantic drop.

But she’ll be back, occasionally. Holidays, what have you - tons of family and friends, so tons of reasons for us to return often! Which is good, because I like the US a lot as a holiday country. Diverse, friendly locals , quite well developed for a colony (;)), et cetera.

Duffer: yes, I’d say we do have a pretty special bond! We have our differences as well, but overall, I think we fit really, really well together. And luckily, she shares that opinion.

ruadh: of course we’ll keep you posted! And while I would never suggest I’m a reliable source of information for, well, anything, if there’s anything I can help you with wrt LDR’s, just ask.

Geobabe: man, I’ve seen more airplane interiors than a retired stewardess these past few years. It’s a hell of a commute to make, but I’ve gladly done it each and every time. Sure, 10 to 16 hours in an economy class seat with a sanitized movie which was crappy enough in its original version, a plastic piece of chicken, mini cans of coke and the wrong beer brands: it sucks. But when you know what’s waiting for you at the end of the long trek, it makes it all worth it.

Oh, with regards to the February 29 thing: we’re planning on returning to Vegas every four years to celebrate.
Actually, the day after we married, we met a couple at the New York, New York that were celebrating their first 4 years for that exact same reason! Then we met the racist Texan dumbass asshole from hell (no, not GWB ;)), but that’s another story altogether.

Damn, that’s a lot of smilies. There goes my tough mod reputation.

Feck! Arse! Bollocks!

There, that ought to do it.

Copycats! Copycats, I say! The whole Interracial Couple Getting Married In Vegas thing was OUR idea! We thought of it first, and are working on the patent!

I’m so glad we didn’t run into the Texan dumbass asshole from hell (or GWB!), though. I think we avoided it by travelling with another interracial couple; he probably thought we were a gang and decided to leave us be. :stuck_out_tongue:

Anyway, congratulations again, and do send us “Before and After” pics of your apartment, once Heloise has had her way with it.

This guy was something else, let me tell you. They pulled their table up next to hours (unasked). This was after he sieg-heiled the German waitress when his steak was tardy, btw.

So, I do the polite thing, and introduce myself. My first name is Jasper, so he says, “Hey, we have this town in Texas called Jasper!”. Fair enough, I’d heard of the town, a lot of Americans have this reaction to my name. So then Heloise says, “Yeah, but the town of Jasper is not exactly known for anything GOOD, is it?”, or words to that effect - obviously referring to the horrific racially motivated murder a couple of years ago. So, this guy leans back, and says something like, “Well, don’t worry, I didn’t bring my chains with me”.

Now, I should have kicked his ass on the spot, of course, but somehow, I didn’t hear his remark properly, or missed the reference, because the full impact of it only dawned on me when Heloise explained it later. I still get mad thinking about it. Heloise, being the perfect lady that she is, just smiled and said, “Man, you really ARE something else”.

What a dumbass. If anyone deserves an asskicking, it’s trash like that. I’d love to see that redneck try and walk a couple of blocks in South Central, you know?

Anyways, yes, my apartment. Heh. Yeah, I guess it’s fair to say some changes will be made. I am a simple kind of guy, in that the most important items in my interior are appliances. Ya know, stereo, 4 foot high speakers, TV, playstation… essential stuff, basically.

She’s more into… I don’t know. Details? Little decorative gadgets and such. And rugs.

And anything with a zebra pattern.

Oh, sorry for stealing your Interracial Vegas Wedding idea. Where do I pay the royalties, and do you take liquor as a means of payment?

Obviously, pictures are required. From sometime after the 29th, of course, so the lovely Heloise can be in them.

Got her clogs picked out yet?

Congratulations!!!

Emofkuniv and I were married last Saturday, 7 August, and he will be moving over to Ireland as of this Thursday, when we’ll be going on honeymoon… we’ve been doing this for 15 months and it was high time we were in the same country!!

So happy for you - isn’t it great to have them full-time? I still have to pinch myself

Interesting plural. I usually get slapped when I pinch them.

I am so happy for you Coldfire. I wish you the greatest future one could possibly imagine with Heloise

…plus ice cream on top, and sprinkles, and chocolate sauce and maybe a cherry…ok, two cherries.

So happy for the two of you, Coldie.

So sorry about the racist dumbass. I’m pretty sure I know the guy you’re talking about. There’s only him and five others in the state but the sonsabitches sure get around a bunch and give the rest of us a bad name.

You and Heloise have so much to look forward to. I’m glad y’alls time has finally come due.

Cool beans! Wishing you both luck and joy in your new living arrangements.
