Life On The Other Side Of The Burlap - A Renaissance MMP

ok - I’ll add them - and The Music man

Good lord I had a bit of a heart pounding morning today. I come into work and I have a message that there is an error in the data in our product that traces back to me. Now normally this is not much of an issue. When Joe Marine down in a motorpool in Quantico finds the problem it just gets put on a list of things to fix for the next production, but today it was different. Today the error was found by a high level government investigator, as in someone who reports directly to either the President or the Joint Chiefs (not sure which). Luckily I keep very meticulous logs and was able to show them that the error was introduced by the guy who had this position before me, plus I proposed an update that would prevent the error from ever cropping up again so I even managed to come out ahead.

I am a huge fan of musicals, but TSOM has never really appealed to me for some reason, not sure why. Speaking of Julie Andrews, not too long ago I picked up the special edition DVD of Mary Poppins and watched it again for the first time since I was a kid. I had completely forgotten how great of a movie it is, I mean I loved it as a kid but I just never thought it would keep so much charm as I grew up. Plus I can’t beleive I never noticed how hot Mary Poppins is!

Does this mean we have to grease Uiza?

Spats what you and Uiza may or may not do in private is none of my business. I do not judge.

rosie I offered a cookie! Surely a cookie is worth a trip to south Jawja.

Als that’s why I preach document, document, document. Ain’t nuttin’ better for CYA than documentation. Good job! If rosie don’t want it you can have the cookie. I agree with ya on Mary Poppins. I always really enjoy it. The hot part though, well, to each his own. I do not judge.

In other news, my black suit is clean! See, I have some stuff in the dry cleaning bag that I forgot about taking to the cleaner’s. I was afeered my black suit was in the bag. It’s hanging up in the closet though. One cannot properly funeralize without one’s black suit can one? Speaking of suits, the good suit place is having a fall sale. Oh, the temptation!

I survived day 2 of training, and I came up with what I thought was a good solution that would allow me to take the other class that’s being brought in 2 weeks from now. I’ll just show up when class starts at 8:30 rather than at 6 as usual, then I’ll go back to the office and hang around however long is necessary to get done what needs to get done. I suggested that to my colonel. He doesn’t want to make a decision till next week.

Sheesh, Air Force… I like the guy, but he’s a tower of indecision sometimes.

I’ll be going to DC on Tuesday for an inter-agency meeting. I got an email spelling out what they want to know from me, which makes it easier to prepare. I forgot to ask if anyone is going to Miami with me, or if I have to do my travel planning myself. So I’ll be busy tomorrow taking care of that silliness.

I’m all out of ice cream. <sigh> Is it Friday yet??

What is it about this week that everyone’s having bad weeks? Monday was really crappy here, Tuesday morning sucked, and today’s been so-so at best. Grrr. I need chocolate.

Naturally. Grease is the word.
<snerk>

<whimper> Aunt Flo came to visit today. I was so hoping she’d moved away permanently - it’s been a fe months since she came to call <whimper>

I haven’t had a sucky week personally, but I have vicariously.

On the way home, the traffic was diverted because of a big accident. I stopped because I saw a tanker and it looked like one of Mayberry’s, but it belonged to Hooterville instead. I couldn’t tell what happened, but half of the fire department was there, a couple of ambulances, and a Medevac chopper. :frowning:

My curiosity settled that my department wasn’t called, I started home. Three minutes into that drive my pager went nuts, because Mayberry was called to a brush fire. I high tailed it to the station just in time to see the small pumper go, with 2 people in it. We’re required to respond with a minimum of 4… I grabbed my gear and took off to the scene.

It looked eerily familiar. Some guy was trying to burn some yard waste, and it got away from him, Even better, it was about a mile and a half from home. Alas, no fun for me. I pulled some hose, put it away, and learned how to fill the tank on the pumper, but no nozzle time. When we left, 10 of us had answered the call.

After we cleaned up, I found out about the wreck I saw. A group of bikers was traveling south when one hit a dog, making him lose it. He slid and tumbled 275 feet, and was run over by one of his buddies who then went down hard. No word yet on either biker; I presume the dog has gone to the great fire hydrant in the sky.

Ok folks. I have gone to Yahoo! Photos. Why, you may ask?

Well, I just sat down to upload all of my pictures to Photobucket from Saturday so I could share them. I haven’t been on in a while, so I noticed right away Photobucket had changed.

It was more difficult to upload mass photos now, and annoying to put the captions in. And an annoying video ad on my page. But what burned the bridge was when I clicked “upload now” and the whole page reset to a blank page somehow. No photos, no captions. So…I’m lost.

Then I went over to Yahoo! photos and it was so much easier to upload all of my pics at once. So here they are -

Cooperstown & Farmer’s Museum September 2006.

Let’s hope this works! My album is public so it should, right?

Hi, miss me? I am slightly horse, I need a throat lozenge. We lost in an OT shootout. Some pics tomorrow.

Bobbio. <snerk> If you keep pulling hose, you’ll go blind.

Meeks, neat photos.

OK, I’ve been trying to get here since 7:30 or so, but the lead developer on our next project called me twice with an update. Good thing we’re friends, cuz otherwise it would have been annoying. We spent a total of 1 hour and 45 minutes on the phone. Plus I did some follow-up e-mails so that some roadblocks will get out of his way in the morning. (Anything to get this thing done and in on time!!!)

Love the TSOM re-write. I knew BWLBs right off. (I’ve been hanging out in this place for a while now…). When Rigs first mentioned Maria, I was thinking Maria from West Side Story. I love the music from that. I have mixed feelings about TSOM. There are parts that I like quite well (all the interaction between Maria and the children, for instance) and others that I’ve hated since the very first time I saw it (Sixteen going on Seventeen - ick ick ick ick ick). Seems like the LOTR rewrite could do some good.

Mom always hoped I would grow up to be Mary Poppins, or really any early Julie Andrews move character or Audrey Hepburn or some such. Not me.

Is it possible to have all-body tendinitis? At the moment, both my elbows are bugging me and I’m afraid the shoulder might be tendinitis too. I’ve been icing everything regularly the last 3 evenings and that seems to have helped, but I want it gone NOW!

Well, it’s way past my bedtime, so I think I’ll crawl into bed… Maybe I’ll get to stop by again in the a.m.

Meeks - now I wanna go to Cooperstown!

Sorry about that, ServantofCanine - I hate shootouts! It’s hard to keep holding my breath for that long!

We’re having an exhibition game on the 19th - $5 entry fee will go to Make-a-Wish. Our team is great about supporting children’s charities - we raised $60,000 at one dinner alone last season. I’m talking to our Coach/GM about donating some of my jewelry for the silent auction this season.

Swampy - I really, really want you and any other area (or semi-area) Dopers to try to get down here (or over here) for a game! Just think of all the wonderful pictures we can post! And all the >snerk< we can share! We’ll be the envy of the MMP! I’ll even let you borrow a Cottonmouths jersey!

My back hurts. Planting lilies is a pain in the back.

Mary Poppins is great. Except for Dick Van Dyke’s “Cockney” accent. Actually, even putting it in quotation marks doesn’t sufficiently indicate the horror that his attempt at Cockney. i can put up with a lot of silliness in a kid’s movie, but the scenes with him in them are almost unwatchable now because I cringe so hard I nearly throw my whole body out of joint. (Is that possible? It seems like it should be.)

It’s allegedly going to cool down tonight. I have opened the windows in anticipation. I’ll believe it when I see it, but at least it’s the same temp out now as I had the AC set for. I really hope this is the last AC day of the year. In New Awlins, I could understand having to turn it on practically year-round. But we get four seasons around here, as opposed to New Awlins’ three, “humid,” “more humid,” and “storm.”

I think I’ve finally come down off my Lost excitement high sufficiently to go to sleep. This is also what happens when I drink two cups of coffee in the late afternoon so I don’t literally fall asleep on my keyboard trying to get that waaay, waaay long job done in time to make the last Fed Ex pickup (7 pm). I always forget when I do that that, duh, it keeps me awake longer than for the next hour. Sigh.

Bummer on losing the shootout, canine servant.

And sympathies on the visit from Aunt Flo, rosie – I am still resentful that she came to visit me a couple weeks ago for the first time in over a year. She damn well better not come back again, she is not welcome any more!

I have a computer! One that belongs to me, I mean. I’ve been using my company issued laptop for 4 years, so having a PC again is weird. But unsupervised web surfing is awesome. My monitor is a 19" LCD and it’s so cool to be able to see everything. I can’t wait to watch DVDs on it. And I can turn the volume up! I love new toys. I also bought a new printer/copier/scanner thingy for $79. I figured at that price, it would be stupid not to buy it. I almost keeled over at the total at checkout though. Good thing I passed on the new stereo.

I watched *The Guardian * today. It really is like *Top Gun * on the water, but I like Ashton Kutcher better than Tom Cruise. Not that I had any idea that’s who it was until the credits rolled at the end. Kevin Costner played Kevin Costner, something he’s very good at.

Then I had my sleep apnea class at Kaiser. I get to do the oxyimeter test tomorrow night to see if I have sleep apnea. I hope that’s what it is or at least part of it. It’s a pretty easy fix, if it is.

I have my PT appointment tomorrow and I have to get my disability paperwork to my NP. Any absence over 3 days triggers a buttload of paperwork to fill out, even though the first 5 days count as PTO, and short term disability doesn’t kick in until day 6. I’ll have been out 4 days, assuming I go back to work on Monday.

Ombligo, you!

I’d rather be an orange if that’s OK with y’all. I like Navel oranges.

Nice pics, 'mika. If not for the mountains in the background, I’d swear you were at [=http://www.oldbethpage.org/home.htm]Old Bethpage

that should be Old Bethpage

It’s been 30 years since I had Spanish. Give me a break… :stuck_out_tongue:

Morning. My throat is sore, my ears ring, and I have a headache. I’m ready to do it again Friday.

Jahdra, large LCDs rock. I got a 17", and when I turned it on for the first time, Wow.

Tigs, I get tendinitis every fourth quarter. It only hurts when I work. Which is a bitch when you work 80 hours in a week.
