Our receptionist has also been here 25 years, the masochist! We had a surprise reception for her and gave her an atomic clock. Believe me when I say it was the perfect gift. She is a time fanatic and just loved it! We also gave her this really pretty crystal clock thing that chimes and carries on which she also loved. It’d drive me nuts.
I will get a plaque. WOO and HOO. Then again, I don’t really care. I stay in this job outta spite anyways.
They need to do you right rosie. The bunch of cheapskate meanies. Take This!
Thanks for the memories, gotti . I worked a couple seasons of RPF NoCal, and a bunch of years at SoCal before moving to the Midwest. Mornings were the best - wet grass, wet dirt, coffee, real chai (not that wimpy stuff you get nowadays), breakfast at the Boar’s Head, finding a friend or a friendly stranger to strap you into a bodice for the day.
I braved about 200,000 rabid NASCAR fans on Saturday to get to the KC Ren Fest for the first time. Even managed to get the old bodice almost closed. Great shopping, but I still can’t stand the sound of a miked stage. And there were too many pirates. One pirate on stage was playing a dobro - it was a bit too jarring for an old fashioned fairie like me. Chrome and 18th century clothes (well, more or less) do not belong on a ren faire stage.
Back to the accounting grind. Gonna sit here get nostalgic for Agoura or Novato, circa 1982.
Well, that explains a lot, then. Last time I drove past, it was so overgrown, none of the buildings were visible at all.
I’m home. And all of a sudden, I’m in demand! All because of my little project at work. Next week, I go up to DC for an inter-agency meet-n-greet chit-chat thing. Plus I’ve got a contractor asking for the data I’ve worked up - gotta find out if I can give it to her. And I’ve got to get my slides updated for my trek to Miami at the end of the month. Why didn’t at least ONE of these people get in touch last month when I did a lot of finger-twiddling??
FCD is in Littleton, watching. That’s what this trip was about - watching some tests. But he sounded in good spirits - I think he’s making contacts that may pay off some day. We shall see.
My mom sent me this link today. Just what you wanted to know…
Ex, you cheeselog, where the heck have you been??
**LiLi ** - speaking of husbands, don’t you need a Gay Husband? Wouldn’t **swampy ** be perfect for that??
Cheeselog? Does he come with some Ritz[sup]TM[/sup] crackers?
Well, I might consider bein’ the gay husband. I’ll do your hair (the buzz cut is in really!), I’ll redecorate, I’ll make you mimosas and I’ll engage in scathing gossip, but I will not wash windows or other stuff that might cause my hands to chap.
For the record, when I hit 25, and then 30 years of service, I got a pin (pewter for 25, gold-colored for 30) and a certificate mounted on a hunk of wood. That, and personal satisfaction.
In '09, I’ll get my 35 year pin, unless I hit the lottery and quit.
Great OP, Gotti (also great nick for you LOL). I’ve only been to the (Md.) Ren Faire once, but had a fantastic time. So much to see and do and eat! I had printed out a map of the faire grounds and familiarized myself with it, so I pretty much knew where stuff was. I think my favorite thing to do, though, was simply watch folks, especially the ones in costume. Had many great conversations, some with folks IC. Hopefully I’ll get a chance to return some day soon, with funds enough to make some purchases. Oh yeah, and I loved the honey mead - delicious stuff!
My weekend was very restful - stayed home, read books, watched tv, even did a little baking and cooking! laughs Once it gets a bit cooler, I’ll make a batch of white chicken chili in the crock pot - good stuff. One of the things I baked was a devil’s food cake, with vanilla frosting, so naturally I saved a piece for FCM. Now if we could only figure out how to get it to her through the computer!
Good OP, Gotti! Takes me back, it does. I did faire for 15 years, half of those years, both CA faires. I quit a couple of years ago, and learned what it was like not to give up six months a year of my life to working.
I still have a yen to get up to it once or twice a year. Matter of fact, I’m going this weekend. I get to do an after hours show, which comes with the benefit of hanging out for the day, but not having to dress and tell people what to do, which is great fun. Gotta dress for that show, though. We singing whores need to look our best.
OgDamn, I have a long drive ahead of me on Friday.
It’s been a very non productive day off. I did take the dog for a walk this evening. The neighbor’s kids gave Maggie a petting when we got back. The two year old had a cupcake, Maggie started leaning towards it, hoping to take candy from a baby. She got a “no” and a leash tug. Funny, she usually isn’t that sneaky when going for food.
Ex [sub]<snerk>you cheeselog <snerk>,[/sub] get back here and reintroduce yourself!
Wow, all sorts of new people! Cool! I really like your name Mrs. Cake. And how appropriate for Baker to stop by on the day you stopped in… ::waves at Baker::
Mr. McCello, do they know you by name at Curious Books yet? Just wondering…
I like reading letters and journals too, although I tend to get distracted and not make it through whole booksful.
Puggy, I’m pretty sure it’s illegal for Mondays to be anything but filled with happiness and light. My Monday could use some shaping up, too. Although it was quite pretty out, so there’s that. At least I got a few things done at work today. Just not enough. (It’s never enough at the moment…)
That is one lovely link, FCM. Will your mom be doing my Christmas shopping for me? (Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease?).
Off to to something semi-productive. Not sure what, though.
Cupcakes, cake, devil’s food cake…I think I want cake.
Fun OP, gotti. I’ve been meaning to get to the Ren Faire forever, but haven’t made it yet. My local gas station seemed to be the local gas stop for people on their way to the Faire, but I haven’t seen a busload of people in costume stop there in ages.
Well, I’m off work until Monday. Or Tuesday, I didn’t pay too close attention to the note, except that I don’t have to go back this week.
I almost feel bad that AC is in the office all by her lonesome. NC has been out since Thursday and I’ve only been in intermittently, now out for the rest of the week. Ok, I lied, I don’t feel bad. This is AC’s chance to shine!
I made the mistake of buying Pillsbury cinnamon rolls with Cinnabon frosting. They smell great while they’re baking, but taste bleh. I hate Cinnabon topping, I don’t know why I bought them. Anybody want one? I’ll stick it through the CD drive.
Oh, I almost forgot, I got a crocheted bag from Japan today. It’s so cute, I’ll try to post a pic tomorrow. It’s red, pink, white and fuzzy. She also sent me a couple of dragons, because I love dragons and some skiing geisha, because, well, I don’t know why, but they’re cute, too.
I’ve been to the local Ren Fest a coupla times. (They had a guy in armor fall off a horse. They were jousting and it was his turn to lose. So he pretended to get hit by the other guy’s lance and fell off his horse. At first I was all like: “Huh. He barely got hit. The big faker.” Then I thought about it for a minnit and was more like: “Dude! He fell off his horse! On purpose!”) I had my first mead at the fest. It was some bad mead. But it motivated me to buy some better mead.
