Lifetime TV

Oh fuck, I know exactly what movie your talking about, Crime of Innocence, is my penis gonna fall off?

No, really, I only watched it 'cause Shawnee Smith was still hot back then … does the math 1985-1970=oh shit … I meant, I’m a big fan of Ralph Waite and Shawnee was hot in The Blob errr Who’s Harry Crumb?!

CMC +fnord!
Great, my dicks fallin’ off and I’m goin’ to hell.

Lifetime turned me off when I got the last part of this movie. I kept waiting for the hook, but no…the mother was just nuts and the family went along with it. How this project ever got greenlighted I’ll never know. Maybe someone was afraid of pissing off Tom Hanks.

Don’t forget the plot where the woman meets a seeming Prince Charming, has a fairy tale wedding and then discovers he is a wife beater/serial rapist/pedophile/gangster/serial killer who she must escape from, then try to put behind bars. She will usually meet a kind and understanding detective, lawyer or social worker with whom she rediscovers trust.

My wife and I enjoy the ocassional Lifetime movie as an MSTK vehicle. What you have to be careful with is the Home and Garden channel. My wife loves decorating shows. When you find yourself getting sucked into those, that’s when you need to get a testerone check. I have horrified myself by actually commenting on a window treatment or a hardwood floor.

Just my WAG, but I’d say it’s the opposite. Like most people, I’ve experienced a few bad things in life, and when I encounter something on TV that hits a little too close to home, I switch channels.

Lifetime is like monster movies; none of us have actually been chased by a monster, but it’s titillating in a way to watch it and imagine it.

In the case of ARK though, I don’t really get the fascination. I’d rather watch Aliens.

I think I read somewhere that a third of all women have been or will be sexually assaulted, so that’s a pretty large demographic. And the other 2/3rds wonder what it would be like?

So, completely by accident (surfing TV Tropes, warning i am not responsible for what happens if you go there) I stumbled across links to two very funny relevant satires:

Enjoy.

Army Wives has a pretty good balance. And good music too.
