My wife and I just bought our first house and are in the process of making it our own.
We added a ceiling fan to our bedroom and the light fixture is the standard globe held up with the three screws at the base. We have this antique art-deco light fixture that we’d like to use instead but it uses a single middle screw and cover. Is there a kit or some way to change the light to accommodate the light cover we want?
(added difficulty–we really don’t want to mess with the light and fan attachment itself)
I’ve never seen a premade conversion kit for anything like this. The major complication I can imagine is that a center-nut fixture is usually multiple light sockets on a base which surround the threaded rod, whereas the globe is a single socket centered on the base.
Anything you do would probably be somewhat ad-hoc and also involve rewiring.
YMMV, I can only speculate without pictures, but I feel confident saying there would be no easy pre-made way to do this.
OP: perhaps you can post pictures of both fixtures (or something similar you can find on Google).
Sure…
This is the exact version of the light we want to use—note center screw.

Here’s a ceiling fan pretty similar to what we have–note the light fixture has the kind of shade that is held by the three tiny thumbscrews at the base. It’s a single bulb light fixture.

I actually spoke to someone at a hardware store and they understood what I was asking for but did not know of any conversion kits–but agreed there should be since it’s not all that different than a floor lamp/table lamp with a center screw–it’s just having a ring still held up with the three small screws.
If you take the globe off of the current light fixture, you should see the lamp wiring passing through a threaded nipple into the base of the ceiling fan. You might be able to screw the appropriate sized lamp hickey onto this nipple (you will need to unwire the lamp and rewire with the hickey in place). You then need to get a longer nipple to screw into the other end of the hickey; you can attach your shade to this nipple.
A lamp hickey looks like this (note that this might not be the right size):
You will need to experiment with combinations of nuts and washers to get a stable attachment. If the existing nipple is too short to attach the hickey to you will need to replace that with a longer one. Since this is on a ceiling fan, do not skimp on jam nuts.
