Light Truck Tires: All-Terrain vs Touring?

I am planning on getting new tires for an old cargo van and (because of sale prices at a local dealer) have narrowed it down to an all-terrain tire (the Cooper Discover A/T3) and a touring tire (the Cooper Discover H/T). I don’t have plans to have off-road use.

Any thoughts on the differences?

Thanks.

If it’s just going to be driven on the road, get the highway tread one. The A/T’s might handle a bit better in snow and dirt, but the H/T’s are going to ride better on the highway and wear better.

I know you didn’t ask this. I used to be a big fan of Cooper tires, but I had terrible results with my last set. One delaminated (“threw a belt”) at about 20,000 miles. I got two new ones cheap after warranty. Then about 2000 miles later, one of the remaining two did the same. I was away from home, and the only Cooper dealer I could get on the phone insisted that dealership did not deal in light truck tires. I had not abused the tires and there’s no excuse for them failing.

I got rid of all the Coopers and now have four Goodyear Wrangler SR-As on that truck.

But in answer to your question, even though I live on some acreage and do use my trucks off the road at times, I always get touring. They are quieter, ride better, and last longer.
