Damn! Another vast liberal conspiracy, and I don’t even get a hint of an invitation! I would sorta figure than somebody would clue me in. But nothin’. Nothin’ from Doggyknees, nothin’ from Elvish. Admittedly, this was a very long and complex plot, and it would be a bad thing if too many people knew about it, or if the information fell into the wrong hands… But, gee whiz, I really, really want to participate in a real-live, honest to goodness conspiracy!

I am simply jumping up and down in my seat in anticipation of the Republican leadership announcing that they plan to dismantle the page program over this. What could possibly go wrong with admitting that their stewardship, or lack thereof, forced them to slap an X-rating on capitol hill?
Right now it seems to me that the lawyer or Foley has no brains. Sure, go ahead Foley and let your lawyer tell the people that you have a common trait many child molesters share. (to have been molested as a child)
Worse than dumb IMO since as far as I know there is no accusation yet of Foley physically molesting a page. A revelation like that only makes sense if they know that a new page will turn on them soon.
If they know that, they’re just digging the hole deeper. The Washington Post reports that Foley’s lawyer is denying any sexual contact with a minor.
At least, that’s what the text of the story says. The only direct quote attributed to the lawyer is “Any suggestion that Mark Foley is a pedophile is false, categorically false.” There’s a little wiggle room with the definition of pedophile vs. ephebophile, I suppose.

Hannity’s going on about this Vast Left Wing Conspiracy too, and quite frankly, I don’t care. Foley is an idiot, he’s skeevy, he’s icky, and he should be arrested. I don’t know about the other pages coming forward, but they’ve got the flipping IM messages! I was so creeped out by I didn’t even finish reading. No one forced Foley to say what he did.
So, am I to understand that the overwhelming majority of Americans, up until last week felt that Congressmen, and Senators were a good choice of people to leave you kids with, unsupervised?

I hate that I want the Democrats to laugh in the Republican’s faces and run 'em outta DC on a rail… but I’m tired of the Republicans getting away with all the shit they’ve been doing, and of the Democrats basically letting them get away with it. I’m tired of Ma and Pa Conservative still voting for 'em, because that’s what they’ve always done and, besides, look how bad the Pubs keep telling us the Dems are.

I was under the impression that in general pedophiles had opposite orientations for children and adults. That’s pretty confusing; in other words, a straight male pedophile will abuse little boys. Am I incorrect?
not in my experience (30 years working w/convicted folks). adult sexual orientation is not predictive of either propensity to be a molester or gender of victim.
I hear Hugh Hewitt is alleging stuff like this too. But I see Michelle Malkin, not exactly a scion of the left wing, warning conservatives not to try to shift blame and to just condemn the rotten apple. Fortunately, it seems SOME folks see this the way it is in this particular issue.
In other, related outrage, I note that other conservatives are using this to say something about homosexuals, and about the gay Scoutmaster controversies. Bah, I say. Bah.
Sexual exploitation of children is not about sexual orientation.
The majority of pedophiles and ephebephiles are heterosexual, but the majority of human beings are heterosexual. Transsexuals are less likely to be pedophiles than the population at large. Sexually isolated individuals, such as those under socially or legally compelled celibacy are more likely to be ephebephiles than the general population, but not by as much as a lot of people think. (These proportions reflect actual behavior, not attitudes, or emotions.)
The old “it happened to me” defense is another statistical shell game, as well. Convicted criminals as a group are more likely than the general population to be victims of crimes. But victims of crimes are not more likely than the general population to become criminals themselves. It’s about associations, and groups. It is not about cause and effect, it is about general population dynamics, and statistical relevance. Statistics are always relevant to politicians, and statisticians. Otherwise, they are just a “scientific” way of casting the bones, and reading fortunes.
Also a great way of changing your mind about whether you deserve to have the things in life that you have earned, when the things you have earned change from cars and houses, to Paddy Wagons, and Jail Cells.
