Linda Rondstat thrown out of casino for supporting Michael Moore!

That has been my experience totally. It is because I believe him to be sincere and passionate about his convictions that I am interested in what he has to say. He conveys a lot about how he feels.

(It just occured to me that I could be describing both Starving Artist and Michael Moore.)

Please explain what it was that sounded like “arrogant and condescending preachings” to you. She gave her opinion that Michael Moore is a patriot and recommended his movie. There was no put-down of anyone.

Why is their fear and anger pent up? What are they afraid of? What are they angry about?

My version (sort of): As it is, we on the left feel that the right as an unfair advantage in espousing its point of view, and perhaps even appearing to be the accepted and predominate way of thinking, due to the predominance of the conservative position in talk radio, talk television, network broadcasting, CNN, the Executive Branch of the federal government, the Legislative Branch of the federal government, and the Supreme Court.

Actually, I accept the advantage that the right has at the moment and I certainly don’t speak for the left. Just myself.

Brace yourself. There are other documentaries that will be released between now and the election.

I have always made it a point to be familiar with at least some of the material presented by "the other side – starting with Goldwater and Buckley in the 1960’s. I have never regretted it.

It is my own belief that Fahrenheit 9/11 is propaganda, but truthful nevertheless. One does not exclude the other.

(sigh…)

I have to bump/re-pit this because I’ve had Blue Bayou fucking STUCK in my head since I first read the news 11am Tuesday morning, as it is (at least it has been) one of my two favorite LR songs. The other is Stoney End of course.

Please…someone make it stop…

Her cover of Poor, Poor, Pitiful Me, by the late Master, Warren Z.? Is that better now?

We’re off to see the Wizard, the wonderful Wizard of Oz…

(one of those songs that you think you know the lyrics to until you start singing it, then it gets all messed up in your head)

was gonna just let this lie, but since someone else bumped it - the point you neatly avoided was that you apparently trusted the newstory wrt the quote, which includes interpretation of the words. certainly you understand the concept of sarcasm. YOu assumed that the report was totally accurate (ie not embelishing or leavin out obvious verbal or vocal cues that she was being sarcastic for example), while insisting that everything else was suspect.

It seems inconsistent to me that youd assume the report was totally spin free wrt the quote, yet not rearding actions.

I heard that didn’t say that someone in the audience at her show being a Republican or a fundamentalist bothered her, she said that when she sees a show and she knows that the performer is, it can make it less enjoyable. And for that reason she didn’t want to make her dedication a major part of her show–just a short bit at the end.

Here is an interesting article from one of the Tucson papers (my hometown and Linda’s) Reports of casino incident not accurate, Ronstadt says

That’s the summary story. Before this thread goes away completely, here’s a link to the full interview.

It’s 5 pages, but 95% of it is about the Las Vegas brouhaha, Michael Moore and politics. It’s a good read. Read it before it disappears into the subscriber-only archives.

I especially liked this bit:
